We're all rotten, buried and forgotten,

Living it up underground

Sterling’s sadness was palpable, as though she could reach out and touch that solid, cold mass that shrouded him. Harley wanted him to get to that destructive pissed off stage. She was good at that part, she would happily dance between the flames of chaos, it was the only thing that felt real, felt like home to the spitfire. It was her beacon and no matter how many people cared for her she felt safe in that darkness, not that she would ever admit it. “You don’t want to wait too long, Sterling. Life might seem long but its short my friend.” Jaded eyes peer at him almost grimly. It was true, unless he was immortal, she would need to ask but now wasn’t the time. Life was short. If he waited too long fretting over someone who abandoned him he would forever be trapped in that misery that had a way of corroding your very being.

There was no doubt that he seemed comfortable in the kitchen. Even as the man was struggling with his fascinating powers, he still used his magic. After all, this was some kind of wild goose chase. Was it not? Would this actually work? At least work as anticipated. It wasn’t likely, she was pessimistic and was under no illusions that it would miraculously make Ace some badass immortal dog. But she had to try, didn’t she? She couldn’t imagine a life without him. Couldn’t bare the thought. At least Sterling had went with the whole psycho pipedream of defying reality.

Surely that seemingly pretty harmless plant was in fact harmless enough that she could touch it. Not that it would have stopped the defiant raven haired woman anyways. She was not one to heed warnings anyways, blazing passed those warnings with little interest. Those fingers reached out to touch that glittering plant. That was when the fucker bit her, sending a zap so fierce that it rattle her brain. Sterling had seemed to be entertained by it at least. At least someone was laughing. She nearly rolled those violet eyes at the man but he really needed a laugh, even if it was at her own expense. For the first time, he had seemed at ease. Then of course he brought up the thought that it might turn her? She stiffened, her mind contemplating that horrific idea. That sure as hell better not happen.

A were-plant. Of all the damn things that was out to get her and she hadn’t wound up dead, but became a… a plant? Well that would have been certifiable bullshit. She bent down slightly, placing her elbows upon the countertop propping herself against it, placing her chin on her closed fist eyeballing that asshole plant Sterling created. She rolled her eyes, unable to stop herself. She was not fond of the idea of turning into a fucking plant of all things. But if she were, she would use it to her advantage. To fuck with people in some way. “Oh gee thanks, Sterling. What will you do, talk at me until I fall asleep?” That sarcasm fell easily from her lips. She rolled her eyes up to give him that cutting sarcastic look he sure as hell deserved. She couldn’t even talk back. ”I suppose I could smack peoples asses when they walk passed and they wouldn’t know what hit them.” She muttered more to herself.

He then told her to be nicer to that plant. “Be.. nicer to.. a plant?” Did he really just suggest that? She scoffs. “I am bigger than it.. it should hope I don’t pick it like flower.” She glowered fiercely. That was when her attention shifted back to Sterling, watching him coo sweet nothings to it like it were lover. Now that was too much. Before she could declare that it was going to work, it simply offered him the leaf he wanted. She muttered something that this was some Harry Potter shit. Sterling seemed quite amused by himself though.

“Maybe its because it can sense I have a black thumb and I kill anything green that enters my home..” She replied to him not expecting it to work. She wrinkled her nose and straightened when the smell of the steaks reached her nose, it was starting to smell damn good in here. She felt the twinge of hunger in her gut, she hadn’t realised was there.

She decided to poke the plant again after giving it an intimidating glare. This time was going to be the time. Then it zapped her again.. that little shit.. It was nice to Sterling. She pulled back her hand, cradling it, mouthing the words, ‘fuck you’ to Basil.

“I don’t know, I don’t think plants like me. Rosemary is probably a little bitch too. Maybe we will just leave this part to you.” She huffed, moving to take a seat so she could stay out of the warlocks way. “Because if I get zapped one more time, we will see if these plants do well with being in an oven.” She uttered over her shoulder rather sadistically. Something that resembled an evil smirk proudly found its way upon her lips, gesturing toward the oven. She could imagine their little plant screams. Okay, maybe she was losing it now. Arguing with fucking plants.. unreal.

The worry was written all over Sterling’s face, but she had to try, had to do something. She couldn’t just let her companion die with old weary joints. She couldn’t let him go this way, not after all they had gone through together. It was a pipedream, a desperation, yeah.. But they lived in a world of magic. Why giving some more life to her dog seem so far off? Maybe she was being selfish. She shook her head, she wasn’t going to back out now. Somehow, giving up seemed worse to her and she was never really one to idly wait for creeping hands of death to take her.

Sterling brought the food, balancing three plates before placing one before Ace and one before and the other for himself. “These look really good.. you should sprinkle some of that magical plant on yours.. maybe it will help your leg?” She suggested, happily ready to dig in. She hardly noticed as Ace had already followed his nose toward the meat placed upon the ground. It no doubt was better than kibble! He began to eat, more like inhale the food, and Harley was fixated on Sterling’s response to notice her canine companion feasting away.

It was a whine that escaped Ace that made her peer down to see he had been to chow town.. Oh shit. “I guess here goes nothing.. so what do we do now?” She suddenly felt a strange butterfly in her stomach as if nervous. What the fuck she was never nervous. This wasn’t like her. But he was right what if things went terribly wrong? Well, she knew Sterling would find a way to fix it. She knew he would. He was a magical being after all; he already had more than a one up on her. ”So how do we know if this works?’ Was all she asked before a sickening crunching sound fills her ears.
