Arlo James

See what it's like to be a vulture's lunch

He had really underestimated her infatuation with weather. At least, when it came to whether or not he could feel the weather. Arlo blinking at her in surprise once more at the sudden ottrent of questions that came with his assurance he didn’t actually need the jacket even despite his like of wearing it. Human habits die hard and maybe sometimes he liked to pretend he was warm. Was that weird? Did other vampires do that? Her simple query was met with a nod, that lopsided grin finding his lips then as the rest of those questions came. Really, he hardly minded being asked, it was the most interest anyone had ever taken in him after all. Abby taking that jacket without any further protest then to pull it on over her head and settle it on her frame. The girl practically swimming in it.

“I can feel when it’s warmer outside, yeah, like in summer, but….i haven’t felt the sun in years babe. I don’t really remember what it feels like. Summer to me is just slightly less cool than winter. I’m always sorta cold, it’s just varying degrees of it i guess. I’m not uncomfortable or anything though, like i said I don’t really feel the cold the way you do. So you don't need to worry about me. If I touched something really hot like a pan, not that i will, babe, or really cold like a block of ice i’d feel it- might take me a little longer to realise I was touching it of course. When I feed- that's when i'm warm. When I have blood. It doesn't last very long but for an hour or so I feel things again- just like a normal person. That's when i wear a jacket, to try keep it as long as I can.”

He was dead, after all, the sensation of ‘feeling’ was different in every sense of the word. He was always cold- not that it bothered him. That ‘cold’ had become his near constant temperature. Those fluctuations in outside temperature still capable of being felt and yet even they sometimes seemed dull. He had no body heat to warm a jacket, most of the time, even though he enjoyed wearing them. Here and now there was little point to it other then letting Abby wear it. After all, the cold for her was kinda a bigger deal. He shifted that conversation easily then back towards Sebastian, the idea that maybe the pair of them could meet some time seeming at least reasonably nice. Even if he wasn’t totally sure he trusted Sebastian. That slight flare of possessiveness tugging at him at even the thought of having Abby around another vampire. It was ridiculous he was sure. He’d never been possessive over people or territory and yet for some reason Abby just seemed to trigger that- even despite the fact he wanted Seb to meet the girl. After all, why shouldn’t he? She was hot. A tiny part of him wanting to show the other vampire just how hot his Panda had turned out to be. Ha. Seb wasn't the only one who could attract...pretty people. Maybe he hadn’t exactly made out with her or anything yet but Seb didn't need to know that right? He had a hot best friend and that had to count for something. Arlo momentarily distracted from his thoughts by that question of why it was that vampires never really shared that story of how they were made. At least- not with just anyone. Arlo sighing softly then.

He attempted to...soften that explanation, he supposed. A part of him unwilling to have Abby worry about him, while the other part simply didn’t want to remember it himself. Arlo ever the optimist even is this as he made some effort to add a positive spin on that tale while leaving out any real details of his own. He remembered that night so well. Even when he’d tried to forget and yet it wasn’t even the vampire thing he was ashamed about, Patrick had damn well saved his life that night. Patrick hadn’t killed him. He’d been dying anyway. Arlo making no effort to offer Abby that. What the hell would she think of him if she knew that story? If she saw the newspapers from the day after? There was so much….stigma attached to it. To how he’d died. Even he wasn’t entirely sure what he’d been doing that night. Had he really been trying to do it? God he didn’t know. It had taken him months to bury that story and years for the world to forget the ‘tragedy’ of his death. He didn’t want to bring it up again. He didn't want her knowing if only because he couldn’t bear to see that look of….pity or horror or shame everyone seemed to look at him with once they knew that story. It was better forgotten. All of it. His head shaking at that apology.

“Don’t worry about it, Chicka. Like I said, it happened and it’s over and it all worked out. I’m doing great now.”

He flashed that grin at her all the same as they continued down that street. Arlo instead querying her about her house and how many rooms it had. The idea of just where he was going to sleep already tugging at him. Friends had sleepovers all the time right? This wasn’t strange or weird or anything. He could make do with some sort of guest bedroom couldn’t he? Abby gesturing proudly to another house then that looked like her own. The vampire commenting on its….clean look. Great. Great compliment. Why did he even talk? He felt his own eyes roll slightly at himself before following the woman the rest of the way down that cul-de-sac and towards that red and green home she promptly declared was her own. Arlo unable to prevent that smile that found his features. This- was a nice home. It was so...suburban and….modern and….picket fency. It...almost reminded him off his own home, or at least, the one he’d lived in with his parents growing up. That simple compliment leaving his lips then as he followed her inside, the girl beaming then in the kinda way that somehow pleased him. Making her smile so apparently one of his new favourite activities. It was almost a shame, really, that he could feel that sun threatening to rise. The risk of collapsing on the floor entirely real, that almost hesitant note finding his voice then as he asked after just which bed, exactly, she wanted him to take. Arlo hearing the words spare room before that sudden assurance she could stay with him saw his eyes widen.

“I- really? Alright then, if your sure and all.”

He hardly knew what that combination of emotion was, some touch of anxiety and delight and surprise turning within him all at once even if he was pretty sure she fully intended to just...sleep. Not that they exactly had time for anything else anyway. Arlo moving to follow after her. That bedroom so...feminine. God it had been a long time since he’d been in a girls bedroom. It was so...girly. Although really why he expected anything else he hardly knew. It suited her. All of it. The scent of her so strong in here it was almost intoxicating- in an entirely good way. Her sudden exclamation that she was going to get changed and that he should make himself ‘all comfy’ momentarily earned her a blank look before she wandered into the bathroom to change. What did that mean? Make himself comfy? How comfy? Should he take his shirt off? He never slept with his shirt on and yet really he’d never slept with a girl in the bed either. God this was so hard. He stepped easily on the back of the heels of his shoes, slipping them off and kicking them to the side. No one wore shoes in bed, that was easy in the least. Arlo debating for several moments before at last reaching up to pull his shirt off, draping it over a desk chair. Those jeans left in place tonight as Abby returned, his gaze readily flickering across her slender figure so suddenly adorned in the sort of pajamas he’d suddenly decided were glorious, those short shorts holding his gaze for several moments longer. God she had nice legs. Was he ready?

“Hmm? What? Oh, sure.”

That light flickered off a moment later, Arlo momentarily relieved both for that darkness and that he’d worn loose jeans tonight. The sight of her in those entirely short pants a little more….captivating then he’ anticipated. It was easy then the simply wander towards that bed. Arlo easing himself on to that empty side to lay back with one last glance to assure him the curtains were closed, Abby crawling in a moment later to join him. The girl so….warm. This was by far the most innocent thing he’d ever done with a girl in bed and yet, in that moment, he was almost sure it was the nicest. Who ever knew how satisfying it could be to have someone warm next to you? Arlo feeling that simper tug at his lips in the dark all the same. One arm lifting, gingerly, to wrap around her and pull her just a little closer. Maybe he could still be just a little daring.

“Night, Ab’s.”
