Azrael

Only Fools Walk Where Angels Fear To Tread

All supernaturals had a feel about them. A sensation of sorts that danced upon his skin. One that was distinctly different for every species. Azrael effortlessly capable of identifying a Were or Vampire or Fairy on sight alone. The mere sight often promoting that sensation in turn and yet this witch was….something else. Something more. That feeling far more potent and decidedly more wretched and vile then any regular witch. A regular witch was an irritation to his skin, Sera herself prompting no reaction in the man at all any longer. This woman however was like some sort of acid that burned his very veins as if every sense he possessed attempted to ward him away. The man so very alert to her every movement it was a struggle not to keep his eyes upon her. His grip upon Sera’s own hand remained decidedly fierce as if he anticipated having to pull her behind him at any moment. His own affinities dancing upon the surface ready to be summoned into life at any second as if his very body seemed prepared to mount that instant defence of his girlfriend and himself. There was something truly, truly wrong with that death witch.

He was relieved, truly, when they completed the near circle of that tent. That exit in sight. Azrael entirely keen to head toward it when that singular soft sound drew both their attention downward and towards that sheeted cage the woman attempted to cover. Concealing a young mewling kitten however was no small feat. Azrael’s golden gaze narrowing instantly before those words found his lips with no small amount of vehemence, assuring that woman she had no license to sell live animals. The fault in his words becoming apparent to him in near the same moment. She had no intention of selling that poor creature live. His golden gaze lingered briefly on those dismembered animal parts that surrounded that tent, distaste rising within his own mouth in that moment. He had seen death before, more times then he could count. Hell, he had been the cause of it in so many cases and yet even he had never butchered some innocent animal for some foolish notion of magic. There was something almost sinful in that notion. One the man was unwilling to abide as he asked after the price of that creature. Only to be given an almost exorbitant number in return. His features shifting into an instant scowl as Sera began to tug wildly at his shoulder. His girlfriend evidently of the belief it was an excellent price for the creature. Azrael eyeing her with a ready disbelief and yet- she was hardly even listening anymore. The young witch attempting to scrounge together what she could in some effort to meet that price. That sigh forced from his lips then as he waved the young woman away. Azrael reaching into his own wallet then to produce that fabled black card wielded only by societies elite. Being on the Council, for all the stress it gave him, hardly paid poorly in any sense.

It was only once his card had been returned and that kitten was nestled safely in his girlfriend's arms that Azrael moved to lead the way out of that tent, the man notably relieved to be away from that woman. The hunter content to mutter about the state of the economy as he did. No cat was worth five thousand dollars. He was sure of that. Even if it was….sort of cute. Not that he saw any true need to admit it. The often irritable Hunter pausing beneath that shaded tree then to examine exactly what such a ridiculous amount of money had bought him. Sera’s insistence that it was cute met with a disparaging snort and yet it wasn’t exactly a disagreement. The hunter commenting on its near tiny size as his golden gaze lingered on its sandy coloured pelt and oddly black banded legs. The young woman's assurance they were only found in Africa and most likely an illegal pet- if only because they were endangered seeing that near dubious look return to Azrael’s own face.

“Well, as long as it’s not secretly a Were the Council has no rules about exotic pets just…..don’t go telling anyone you have him.”

His own hand extended toward that little animal then, the Sand Cat proceeding to rub its cheek against those extended fingers in that affectionate manner only cats were capable off. Azrael’s own lip quirking ever so slightly into that small smile before the hunter seemed to catch himself. His hand hurriedly withdrawn as his arms folded across his chest. That sudden utterance off his name seeing the man turn back towards his companion then as he met the blue of her gaze. That sudden request to make sure that witch met her fate at the hands of the Council saw his own eyes lift upward in surprise. In all the time they had been dating Sera had never really mentioned his work let alone ever asked him to bring about someone's demise. For several moments the blonde Hunter merely eyed that raven-haired woman. Her words entirely unexpected. Sera insisting he himself was not allowed to be the one to do it all the same. Her gaze steadfast upon him before he seemed to brush aside whatever thoughts had been lingering there. His head nodding a moment later.

“As soon as we get back to the car I’ll make sure she’s taken care off- by someone other than me.”
He added simply. It was almost….touching really that the woman might worry for him enough to beseech him to send someone else. An unusual sort of emotion shifting somewhere within him, the often irate Hunter almost surprised by it and yet for now he allowed that consideration to pass. His gaze drifting back to that tent only to scowl at it. God willing- that witch wouldn’t even see the night. Still, that Serafina might request her death was unanticipated. Azrael hardly choosing to question it all too much. That woman, he suspected, had been the cause of more than merely animal deaths in her time. Her own death would be no great loss. His attention was brought almost instantly back toward his girlfriend then as she promptly announced that since he had paid for that kitten he surely got to name him. Azrael glancing in surprise toward that little animal once more. Naming anything was hardly a skill he claimed to have. The Hunter very near content to suggest they simply name is ‘Sandy’ and be done with it and yet, he suspected, this naming business was more important to Seraphina then she truly let on. The things he did for his relationship! Azrael silent for a few moments then as he eyed that little creature snuggling into Sera’s arms, its bright eyes peering eagerly at the world around it with little idea at how close he had come to being…..whatever it was those other animals in that tent had been.

“How about Arik then?”

That near blank look the woman offered him at that decidedly curious name merely saw him sigh. Azrael taking a moment then to explain that very idea behind the name.

“Ariel is the Angel of animals and nature- Arik is the male version of that name. It means lion in Hebrew.”

He glanced back toward the woman then to see how that name might be received, Azrael rarely ever discussing those religious elements of either his own work or that family he had come from and yet he’d always been fond of his own angelic middle name- the one he so often used as his first. The Hunter rather assured that new edition to their makeshift family of sorts could easily pull of an equally grand name. At least, when he grew up a little. Azrael frowning once more at the thought.

“How big is it going to get?”

If it stayed so tiny it was unlikely to ever truly meet its lion namesake and yet, he supposed, it probably didn’t matter too terribly much. Azrael gesturing toward that car then.

“Come on then, we might as well head back to your place. Unless you want to see anything else here? We’re going to have to stop at the bloody store on the way home anyway and buy cat things like…..food I suppose. God, its going to need vaccinations and things too."
