He seemed to think he had quite the specimen of an ass though she would never tell him as much out loud. Yes, he did have quite the specimen but she wasn't about to stroke his already inflated ego. Besides, she did love to make him squirm a little bit. He finally rolled his eyes and laid back on the bed, telling her he had faith in his weapons. She grinned. "Then I guess you won't mind rolling over and lying VERY still." She was only joking of course but he didn't have to know that. She loved how she could bring him to life with just a simple touch. Knowing that his member expanded for her enjoyment and no one else's gave her a fluttering feeling low in her belly that she couldn't explain. And that groan from his lips gave her way too many dark thoughts for it being so early in the morning. If she gave into her inhibitions, they would never leave the bed and she couldn't accomplish much beside her own selfish enjoyment if she did that.

When he brought up the mail, it gave her an adequate excuse to get up and so she took it. She liked that he never seemed to piece it together that she was getting mail there now for a reason. He never asked about her other living arrangements like it wasn't important cause he pretty much expected her there every day and night and in a way, that was exciting for her. But the moment she saw the photos fall from that envelope, her heart twisted in her chest like someone had just stabbed it through with a sword. It was Viktor. It had to be. No one else would taunt her like this, waving Kohl's innocence in front of her like a baton. The moment she heard him come into the room, she felt herself tense, because she was already preparing herself for what she had to do. She knew what Viktor was doing. If she continued to see him, he would kill Kohl without a second thought, just to prove to her how easy it was to take away happiness. It was a lesson he had taught her growing up.

He taught her to stay unattached because attachments were weakness. To prove his point, he brought a Dark Hunter into the room who called himself Vincent. To those on the street, he was Vince the Butcher. He was known for massacres of Were packs and vampire covens, even taking out two infamous witches. To all eyes, Vincent was immortal, invincible. And then Viktor brought in his favorite whore, Danielle. They weren't exclusive or anything but it had become known that Vincent like to visit her hostel late at night often, especially after a good hunt. He treated her differently than the other whores and there's been whispers of running off and eloping. Viktor didn't even give a warning as he sliced her throat right there in the room. The look on Vincent's face told all. He crumbled to the floor like a paper doll, watching her bleed out and knowing there was nothing he could do. He didn't even struggle as Viktor then turned and threw a dagger right between his eyes. Kat swore she saw relief in Vincent's eyes as he collapsed to the floor, finally to join his lover.

Viktor taught her an important lesson that night. No attachments, no weaknesses. He would slice Kohl's throat just to prove a point. She couldn't allow that to happen so to save him, she had to prove to Viktor that he was unimportant, not worth killing to get to her. She tried to shut off all emotions and hide them behind that once inpenetrable steel wall inside. The wall Kohl had wrecked to pieces when he came into her life. But to save his life, she would do anything. She didn't even respond as he reached out for her arm. She knew he was trying to comfort her and on another level, she was touched. He told her that the police could handle it and that no one could get in. She look away with a sigh. "He can and he will. Viktor is hundreds of years old, the oldest Hunter I've ever met. He knows things and people. He has connections everywhere. The police couldn't handle him any better than they can handle a century old vampire."

An apology was the first thing to fall from her lips because it was the only thing she could think of to say before she turned herself off completely to him. She had to let him know. She could tell he was stricken by the tears she didn't even know till then were streaming down her face silently. She was crying for her loss and she hadn't even stepped out the door yet. She heard his words, even that endearing use of the word darling, but none of it mattered anymore. Not until Viktor was gone forever. She backed away to get some space before going back into the bedroom. She knew he was following but she couldn't look at him now. It would be too hard to say good bye. She took his shirt off of her shoulders, putting on her own clothes. She couldn't take anything of his with her cause that was just asking for trouble. She started sheathing her weapons and he told her she couldn't go hunting. She bit her lip for a second as she tried to pull herself together.

Only then could she turn and face him, raising a distant gaze with knitted brows to his. "You don't control me. I can and I will." The words were forceful, angry even, not that she meant a word of it. She wanted nothing more than to take off these clothes and leap into his arms, never to leave them again. But she couldn't just hide from this. She had told him before about Viktor but had only touched on it. She told him Viktor was the one who turned her and that he had killed her parents and made her think it was a pack of Were's. When she found out his betrayal, she tried to kill him but failed and so she ran, hoping to stay out of his reach. It had worked brilliantly, until now. She brushed past him and went for the door but he was angry and rightly so. He told her that he didn't understand, that she wouldn't tell him anything. He asked who she was going to kill. She sighed. "I won't fail a second time. Viktor will die by my hand or I by his. There can be no other way. He will never stop hunting."

She went back to him only to wrap her arms around him and pull him in for a passionate kiss since it might be their last. She whispered the words to him, not sure at first if he might hear but she felt his body tense and his lungs cease to expand for a second and that was enough. Feeling satisfied, she pulled away, putting up her shield once more as she walked to the door. She felt him following and a part of her wished he would stop and turn away, be angry with her, anything else. She kept walking, though breath ceased to exist for her when seh heard those words shouted for her ears only. He said it again. He loved her. And her heart swelled, only to break all over again because she knew she might never be able to come back and say it for him again. She kept walking even as the rain came down, and when she felt like she might not be able to take another step, she ran.
