dance to the rhythm of your heartbeat

If the fae man were any other being sitting beside her in those warm and heavily steamy waters of the hotsprings as he reveals to her that not only were fae children a rarity, but that humans could be changed, she almost wouldn't believe the words that fell from his lips, but she found herself believing every single word. Even in all those stories she'd been told a small child that still believed in unicorns and wizards, she had heard of how humans were subject to change from the bite of a vampire or a werewolf beneath the eerie light of the full moon. After that afternoon tea party, when suddenly that world she'd always been convinced to believe as nothing more than myths conjured up to explain the sometimes unexplainable truly began to come back to reality as Dorian and Andras told her of the packs that ran the west side of Sacrosanct, of the undeniable truth that those beings were as real as the blue-eyed blonde was and that they'd always existed alongside humans since the very beginning only to hide themselves away from the world that wished to exterminate them, Beylani had come to realize that the city she now called home was so much more than it appeared. It was a place of magic both good and bad, and it has been almost too much for the young woman to process that day. What they hadn't touched ever so briefly on as the conversation had shifted was the matter of turning. Besides, it would make sense if all the lore was true, that a bite from an undead or were-creature would have the same adverse effects on a mortal human as they did in all those stories she'd been told. But what of witches and dark hunters? What of fae folk? There hadn't been enough time that day to ask such questions, and perhaps she hadn't bothered to just then because she'd needed some time to come to terms with the fact that she could be walking down the street with a were-creature or witch and be wholly and entirely unaware of it. Since then, she hadn't had a chance to ask Andras a little more about that which still remained vastly unknown to her, but she had been certain that such a moment would find them again if her ever-curious nature had anything to say about it and if the fae man’s willingness to help her find this knowledge she’d been told so many times were only the workings of ancient imaginings would continue to be just as steadfast.

Never having been the best at trying to mask those emotions that would flicker to life within those sparkling baby blue depths, that frantic thoughts of her current… predicament are slowed as a new emotion tears her away from that place she seemed to be drifting to more and more. There is disbelief and shock tinged with fright that starts out small only to climb steadily until she is almost able to convince herself that it was this newfound and gruesome knowledge that made her heart beat as fast against her chest as it did. He carries on, explaining that it was a ritual that occurred, that fae folk would abduct a human being only to hold them hostage. When he goes on to say “for a time”, she can’t help but what for how long. Hours? Days? Weeks? Months? She wonders then of how the human was treated… Did they torture the human? Starve it until it would seem as though they wouldn’t even make it to said ritual? After all, if it was something that was forced upon another being, surely the treatment could not be kind or decent? It was clear as those tenor tones of his continued to fill the quiet night air around them that talking of this ritual was not something that he wanted to do, and yet for the sake of her curiosity, he did not stop. Perhaps a part of her wanted him to stop, not wanting to know any more than she needed to, which in all honesty was nothing as it wasn’t like she intended on asking for such a thing. She couldn’t even truly begin to wrap her mind around the idea of being taken away to some unknown place and kept there to endure whatever treatment her captors might deep suiting before they murdered her… It was enough to chase away the warmth in her skin for a fleeting moment, thinking that anyone of the fae race would ever do such a thing. Better yet, why would they? As rare as fae children were, she could supposed that those who might commit what Andras insisted was a crime in his court would be doing it for the continuation of their kind, but still it just seemed so… cruel. So, heartless… Regarding Andreas gently as she forces those wild and almost frantic thoughts, she couldn’t even imagine him being even just a small part of such an act. Thinking of Ida, of Dorian, she just didn’t see how it was that a race that only ever seemed so kind and bright would have such a dark and bloody ritual. Not even were-creatures underwent such things to become something other than human.

Both to a degree of relief as well as dismay, the conversation shifts away from that question she’d pulled from that sea of questions she still yearned to obtain the answers to and back to the blue-eyed blonde's present, predatory hazel eyes lowering to find her shoulders. That cold that had clawed at her beneath the heaviness of the fae man’s words vanishes in mere seconds as she has his full attention once more, those dark eyes no longer appearing distant as though he had seen things that he hadn’t wanted to. His gaze narrows and he gives her that wry smile that has her heart thundering wildly still so much so that she thought for sure that she would be overwhelmed by that lightheadedness, though she clings fiercely, almost desperately to that consciousness as she becomes aware of that breath catching in her lungs with no sign of escaping. As he shifts to be closer to her, she feels herself grow even lighter, those satin tenor tones sending those butterflies fluttering wildly in her stomach in such a way that she’d never felt before, even with Andras. That devilish smile that would surely be the end of her grows upon those chiseled and handsome features of his face, and when he reaches for her, she would swear that her heart skipped not one beat, but several as those gentle fingers brush ever so tenderly against her face and place the soaked strands into place behind her ear. She feels herself growing lighter and lighter by the moment, and when that hand of his settles ever so gently against her fair-skinned cheek so colored by that wild blush that she had no hope of hiding when she was around the one that made her feel so many things that she couldn’t even gather them if she tried to the point of desperation, that is when her heart can’t seem to cope any longer beneath that touch that she could feel her slender frame craving. She doesn’t see the look of concern in those hazel depths nor does she hear her name on his tongue as she is suddenly swallowed into a swirl of pitch black, her consciousness finally giving beneath her, entirely unaware of those strong arms that catch her before she can sink under the warm water that likely did not help the young woman.

She doesn’t know how long the moment lasted, but finally, her senses begin to return to her. Instead of the simple sensation of floating in the water as she’d expected to find, there is a firmness, an even stronger warmth that encourages her to come to. Thick lashes flutter almost weakly over those baby blues as everything begins to come into focus once more. The rhythmic sound of a heartbeat finds her ears then and when at last she is entirely aware of herself, she feels that embrace tighten ever so slightly around her shoulders as she discovers her head was resting over that chiseled and bare chest. Almost instantly, her heart begins to resume that wild race in her breast when she remembers where she was, and notices just how close they were. Had it been anyone else, she would have been quick to push herself away, she finds that she can’t… that she doesn’t want to… She feels that gentle hand find her chin and he is lifting her gaze to meet his, those hazel depths she saw almost every waking moment of every day searching baby blues, the gentle light of concern seeming to leave them as amusement takes its place within those eyes of his. Midnight tenor tones usher past that wicked grin of his and she is entirely melted into him, like puddy in his hands… like that night by firelight. He chuckles and she offers him a weak and sheepish smile.”I'm fine, I…”, she begins to say as she struggles to find her voice, but that train of thought is brought to an abrupt halt as she feels his thumb brush delicately along her skin, baby blues locked with those dark hazels that linger down to her lips that are a mere breath away, and she can see in them a hunger that whispered unheard wants to her and her fluttering heart."I don't... mind...", she whispers softly, her heart pounding wildly in her chest as she remains there pressed against him, her own gaze moving briefly to those lips she'd only ever fantasized of pressing against her own... against her skin... Finally, her gaze lifts slowly up to meet his once more, an unspoken desire coming to life in those baby blues though she doesn't dare speak them as she lingers there against him like she'd dreamt of more and more before tonight.
