East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

The night was oddly cool, the breeze moving between the buildings caused the skirt of her sundress to whip lightly across her legs as she walked down the sidewalk. Yejide wore a light denim jacket with the sleeves rolled up, a canvas tote over her shoulder filled with a few cut flowers and some groceries she had picked up from a specialty market. The tap of her sandals on the cement went unnoticed between all the other feet hitting the pavement; all she could smell was food, smoke, gasoline, and the occasional sweat of a jogger going down the street. Every time someone brushed too closely to her Yejide's hand would go straight to the spelled pendant around her neck, holding the metal until she couldn't feel that person on her anymore.

Perhaps paranoia wasn't healthy, hell it was the reason her youngest brother had come to live with her. It had been a few days and Ezra seemed to be settling well enough, although he kept trying to wake her up while the sun was still out and although she could go outside it didn't feel right. She missed being beneath the stars and feeling the night air on her skin. She needed to get out to the country-side one of these days, somewhere that the light pollution didn't touch every single thing out there and block her vision of the stars above. When she hadn't been home visiting her parents and other siblings she often found the only peace she found was within the nights where she could see every star above her, where she could feel those other star-fae as well as her daughter. Happy, healthy, safe. That's all Yejide wanted.

Scooting the bag onto her shoulder further she could hear the low click of the glass that surrounded the new spices she had picked up. She knew Ezra would love having one of his favorite dishes made and none of the markets near their home held any of the spices she needed. They were a little more generic, plus the farmers market wouldn't be set up until Saturday, she'd have to force herself up during the day to get there of course. In her own opinion: No thank you. Yejide wasn't quite ready to head home from the city, especially not without stopping by her favorite café, one she only got to frequent when she had errands close by.

Stepping through the door she felt her body relax much more than she thought it would, the smell of coffee beans and vanilla was strong and comforting. It felt good. Under her skin she was buzzing, it was if her body knew when other supes were around, others who shared the strange anomalies, but those who were supernatural seemed to have an extra dose of life, although not necessarily true of the vampires. It was true what Mortimer had said, this city was crawling with magical beings, and although she should be scared she wasn't for the moment, even looking around people looked happy and content, no one looked like they were going to be causing trouble.

Without hesitation she walked up to the counter and put in her order, "for here," and went to stand by a few young people waiting for their own drinks- but not before dropping a few dollars in the tip jar. Before she knew it her name was called and she was saying, "thank you," and holding the ceramic white mug that seemed standard of cafes, a lotus etched into the top of her latte. With pleasure on her face she took a seat in a mildly plush dusty-rose colored chair at a small table, placing her tote down on the floor beside her. Lifting the mug to her lips she shut her eyes with contentment and she took a sip.

Placing the cup down on the table she continued to hold it between her hands, the café cooler than it was outside. Jolting slightly she felt the buzzing vibration of the phone her brother had gotten her, too worried that she would have no means to reach him if she was in trouble. Pulling out the old flip phone she saw that she had a text. With some exasperation she went around hitting random buttons... technology wasn't exactly her strongest suit. Couldn't he just... call? After fiddling around with the phone for roughly 5-10 minutes she put it down rubbing her temples. "... I didn't even want this thing." Exasperation in her hushed tone Yejide reached over and took a deeper gulp of her drink, if he was going to keep forcing this technology onto her he could have at least taught her how to use it.
