East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

THE EVENING COMES

no matter how long the day,
the evening still comes
H
uman nature is as simple as it is complex. The moment more of his demon rises, there is a very physical reaction in Aine. Her pulse begins to race. Her breath becomes quicker and more discernible through the heaving of her breasts. A clammyness begins to sheen across her pale skin and her pupils dilate with eons worth of ingrained fear. The prey in her sensed a predator but her flight or fight instinct must have a defect. For underneath all that instinctual hubbabloo she is intrigued. It's almost as if he is the missing link she has been searching for her entire life. The idea made flesh that got her cast away from her family in Ireland. He was something 'other' than human. Aine was sure of it...but that rational side of her mind tried to talk her out of it. Tried to rationalize her reaction as simple fear to an obviously deranged stranger who was doing a very good job at intimidating her. Part of her even believed it. However, Aine had always been a dreamer and if her family couldn't shake her beliefs she certainly wasn't about to let herself do it. With a mental 'fuck you' to her rational brain, Aine stiffened her spine and met his gaze with a dare in her eyes. Do it. Come on.

A
ine must be one part brave and three parts fool, just like her father always told her. For surely only a fool would react as she had done. Foolhardy to the end it would seem. The lazy drawl of his voice is so at odds with his stare that it takes a moment for it to set in, that the comment made came from his lips. A scowl mars her features in response and it causes a wrinkle to form between her brows. Asshole. Of course the handsome, perhaps otherworldly stranger had to be an asshole. It was so fitting and yet the epitome of a cliche that she was slightly disappointed. Stifling a sigh she doesn't bother with a vocalized response and instead chooses the very mature route of rolling her eyes. He had stared at her. She had felt his eyes upon her skin like a caress before the indifference. He wasn't just a cliched asshole, he was a hypocrite as well. Perfect. The first person she meets in this town just had to be an utter numbskull. What great luck she appeared to be having so far.

S
he is getting ready to cut her losses and go home for the night when he decides to respond. His answer causes a single brow to raise on her lovely face. If he wanted her to lose interest, he was certainly going about it the wrong way. His name slides into her mind like a musical note and resonates. A shiver rolls down her spine and causes the hair to rise on the back of her neck. She's never heard his name before and before she knows what she's doing, her tongue is forming his name and uttering it back to him in her Irish lilt. "Andras." She pauses, as if savoring the taste of his name on her tongue. A moment goes by before she extends her delicate hand and offers him her name in return. "Aine." She wonders if he understand it's An-Yah, or even if he'll shake her hand. Hell, she didn't even know why she offered it in the first place, except that the gesture was ingrained in her mind.

A
light blush begins to rise over her pale complexion and before long she is blushing prettily and lowering her hand embarrassed. She felt like an idiot. Aine highly doubted he went around shaking hands with people. He hardly seemed the type. Aine casts her gaze to the bar top and stares at the wooden surface for a few moments before hesitatingly peering up through her dark lashes at his handsome but assholeish face. He wants to know why she's here? Good question. What started out as wanting a simple drink has somehow morphed into, well, whatever the hell this is. Aine catches her bottom lip between her teeth and worries the soft flesh before replying. "I just moved here." She pauses and then continues because she has developed a case of verbal diarrhea it seemed. "This is my first night in town. I figured'd I'd grab a pint and see what the town was like. Looking for a little piece of home in the big city." She finally manages to catch her tongue and shut herself up before she can say anything else. Hastily she grabs her drink and lifts it to her lips and takes yet another large swallow. Well, it couldn't get any worse. Right?
