East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

dance to the rhythm of your heartbeat

In a matter of minutes she is down the stairs and climbs into her four door white sedan. There was nothing special about it aside from the fact that it was her very first car her parents bought her when she'd passed her driver's test when she was sixteen. It had dents and missing paint here and there, and it certainly wasn't the newest model of its kind, but she believed it all added character. She takes her key and unlocks the door, climbing in and fastening her seat belt before looking to the black bag on the passenger seat that held her deepest passion. On a rainy and overcast day like this, why not take some pictures of what was likely to become her favorite place in this big city? She reaches over to peek at the Nikon Coolpix camera inside, already growing more excited about the photo opportunities a mere 20 minute drive from here if traffic was kind. As she puts the key into the ignition and reverses out of her designated parking spot, she can't help but feel like something big was going to happen today. Maybe it was simply because it was her first day truly on her own in the big city so different from the little down miles and miles away that had been the only place she'd ever really known. That in and of itself was a little off putting, but if there was one thing anyone knew about the young woman, it was that she was always ready for that next big adventure on the figurative horizon. She begins to drive to the café, silently praying with every stop and go, every left and right turn she makes from memory, that she doesn't get herself lost. The radio plays on low to some country tune that she doesn't quite recognise, baby blues looking all around as she takes in the street names and various other brand new sights. One of these days when it wasn't raining, she would definitely need to take a nice, long stroll and get some snapshots of both new and old building, of the people walking on the streets, some dressed in business attire and others wearing more casual clothes as they all went about their big city lives.

She nearly misses the café a second time after having already driven by it once in just enough time to realize she'd been distracted, but is finally successful in snagging a parking spot a couple buildings down. She reaches around to the back seat and pulls on her white waterproof double breasted trench coat, carefully removing the camera and placing close to her breast inside the jacket and climbs out of the car. She then turns to reach back into the sedan and slings her purse over her shoulder before shutting and locking the door, father's warning words to always be careful echos faintly in the back of her mind as she tucks her keys into the depths of the leather accessory. The last thing she needed on her first day here was to accidentally drop her keys and risk her car getting stolen, then again one would think someone looking for a quick getaway car would choose something... nicer and sportier. She walks around the front of her car, leather boots meeting concrete sidewalk and she walks briskly towards the café entrance, eager to see what it looked like inside and equally eager to get out of the rain that increased in strength since the light drizzle earlier. What she would find next on this new adventure into this new life would leave her breathless - for more reasons than one.

The chiming of bells that hung from the door handle announce her entrance, but thankfully those sitting at small tables enjoying their coffees or teas paid no mind to the small town girl out of her element but refused to show it so easily, though it was clear in the way that she looked around her with wonderment at the trinkets that hung on the walls and filled every part of this up beat place indicated she was not from these parts. Carefully, she removes the nikon from its shelter in her trench coat covered in beads of water and takes a few quick snapshots of the decoré before walking up to the counter where the smiling barista takes her order as Beylani hands her a five dollar bill for the small caramel macchiato. She steps aside while the woman gets to making her drink, and when she turns to look out to the tables and chairs filled with murmuring strangers talking amongst themselves or reading today's paper, her eyes fall upon a man in the fae corner nearest to the window. On the table in front of him, a laptop and notebook along with a cup of what appeared to be black coffee, but it wasn't the array of items or the backpack at his feet that caught her attention. Handsome was the first word that came to her mind with the way that his dark hair seemed brushed yet a little messy (something that was a style these days that she found herself quite liking), his face chiseled and strong yet also young. He couldn't be much older than her if at all, and by the equipment in from of him she would guess he was a college student... All this she certainly noticed, but what she found herself most drawn to was not his jawline or his hair in slight disarray, but rather it was his amber eyes that would occasionally glance up and out the window before turning back to whatever it was he was working on in front of him. There was a solemn expression to him, this guy in the corner alone with headphones plugged into his ears and focus consumed in his paperwork. Despite his lack of bright clothing choice or absence of a friendly visage, there was something about him that reached out to her....

She'd been so caught up in staring at this complete and total stranger that she hadn't even heard the batista calling out her order until there was a tap on her shoulder from behind. She jumps a bit and turns to see the courteous smile of the batista as she hands the blonde girl her specialty coffee and Beylani can feel her cheeks grow warm as she offers the woman an apologetic smile and happily takes the cup from her. She moves over to an empty chair that consequently was not far from the handsome stranger she'd been staring at for God knows how long and takes that first sip of her drink. Delicious! And just what I needed on a day like today. She shifts through her purse that she set on the small table in front of her and checks her phone to see a message from mother."Be careful, and let me know when you're home. Love you ". Just like mother to leave a message where Beylani could easily hear the worry in her mother's voice. She quickly types back a reply, "I will, I promise. Love you too", then turns back to her coffee, taking in another sip with quiet delight as she looks around her once more. And once more, she catches herself looking back at him. She simply chalks it up to her photographic nature that is alluded by his expression and she lifts the camera from its place on the table. The shutter of a picture, or a moment as she calls it, being captured sounds but she doubts that he heard it. She then looks at the screen and gives a satisfied smile. He seemed so mysterious and thoughtful in this image with the overcast window in the background as amber eyes peer at something only his eyes can see.I should probably go and say hi or else risk looking like some creepy stalker chick or something, she thought to herself. And so, she gets up from her chair, collects her things and her coffee, and carefully makes her way towards him. Some might say she was brave, others careless, but all she hoped for in this moment was that he didn't look at her like some weirdo. She feels her heart beginning to race in her chest at the uncertainty of if he'd seen her take the photo or how he would react to a complete stranger, but it was too late to turn back now and so she stands there beside the table, camera clutched to her chest as she offers him a small yet bright smile."Hello".
