East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

It's not the long walk home that will change this heart,
But the welcome I receive at the restart.

The vampire doesn't hesitate to bring the drink to his lips. Scotch wasn't really his choice of poison per say, the vampire had acquired a distinct palate for wine over the centuries, but he was in the mood for something stronger. Something stiffer. The burn of the liquor seemingly wakes him up. Alcohol was, after all, one of the only human-like pleasures he could still indulge in and actually enjoy. So the vampire slurped at his glass some more, swallowing it all in a matter of minutes. It is a rare moment, a lapse of judgment perhaps, for the man who was so dutifully put together all of the time. His guard was down, at least momentarily. There was no one to judge him in this empty bar. No one he knew. This wasn't a spot he often frequented, either. So when Dareios consumes the last drop, he slides the empty glass across the bar to the keep on the other side. "Another, fine lad." Dareios said bluntly. Perhaps his work was weighing on him heavily, as of late. Or perhaps the vampire just didn't give a damn any more. Whatever the reason, Dareios was as raw and as vulnerable now than he's ever been in public.

He takes his hand stiffly, shaking it like a politician would, Dareios briefly coming out of his somewhat intense, personal moment for the fear that stemmed from being recognized. He only wished to be nobody for a moment longer. "Damon." Dareios repeats, in a thick Irish accent. "This is your bar, right? Savage place." He continued, with compliment. Dareios smiled at him briefly, realizing that this was the man who had invited him to the party. If he remembered correctly, Damon was the one who seemed to be with the breathtaking redhed all of the others were fawning over. Lucky him. Damon must also be who ran the local coven. It wasn't the first time this year he'd been invited to some sort of vampire gathering. The invitations were often generic -- beckoning him to come to some kind of vague social gathering for networking or social purposes, but really it was a ruse. You see, this is usually what covens do when they're low on members. It's a way to get you there. Get you face-to-face where they can pester you for membership. It was hardly any different than political rallies and their attempts to bleed you for monetary contributions. Dareios had learned his lesson from running in covens. But he wasn't about to be rude.

"I'm Dareios Auerbach." He said, one hand digging into the breast pocket of his blazer to reveal a card. On it was his name, and the title of "antiques dealer." Most of the vampire community here knew that was merely one (the only legal one) aspect of his business in Sacrosanct. Dareios flicks the card across the bar to his new acquaintance.
