Arlo James

See what it's like to be a vulture's lunch

He guessed she was right. After all, people would be making way more of a fuss if his brain was falling out right? It felt like it was still there. Mostly. Maybe. Arlo grinning even despite that almost sharp response from the woman as if he was pleased to discover his head was, largely, intact. That was fairly pleasing after all. Still, why on earth the girl seemed so stressed he hardly knew. Was she worried he was going to attack her or something? Hadn't he explained to her last time that her blood wasn't exactly on his radar? Maybe she had forgotten. Still, he hardly remembered her being this, well, moody the last time they had met. A bit standoffish sure, most women usually were and yet she seemed downright mad at him. Arlo hardly sure what he had done to encourage this sort of anger. Maybe it was better if he just gave her the money and left her alone? Some people preferred their own company he supposed- that was cool. He was hardly going to force his company on her if she had things to do. Her hands shoved almost roughly into her pockets then, Arlo's head twinging slightly in some further effort to heal before the girl sighed. The time he had taken to pay her back apparently the issue....even though she also apparently didn't even want the money. Arlo staring at her almost blankly for a moment. Why were women so strange? Every time he thought he understood them they went and did something, well, like this. She was mad because he took so long to give back the money she didn't actually want?

His efforts to at least apologise to the girl, even if he wasn't entirely sure exactly what he'd done to upset her were met with a veritable snort of protest. Where was Sebastian when he needed him? The elder vampire always seemed to know exactly what to say to girls. Arlo entirely sure he could live a hundred years and never be quite as smooth as his friend. Still, he almost wished he had just a little of that skill all the same, Arlo making some effort to assure her he was, well, the opposite to whoever it was she was describing that apparently never came back. He had come back after all, just like he said he would. That small smile on his features faltering once more as Calliel promptly announced that she wasn't cross, but rather defensive. Arlo mostly sure they seemed like the same thing right now and yet he was hardly bold enough to inform her of that. The young vampire a decidedly optimistic creature. A rather rare trait amongst his often depressive kind. Yet- this conversation was almost lost upon him entirely, that confusion clear upon his features as one hand lifted to run through his hair as if contemplating what exactly the young woman might want to hear. His shoulders lifting in an almost defensive shrug as his palms turned outward in that universal gesture of innocence.

"Look babe, im sorry someone broke up with you or you've had a fight with your friends or whatever it is. People leave, I get it, you think I don't? I'm a fucking vampire. My family kicked me out, I haven't heard from my parents in years because, to quote my old man 'you're dead to us'. My band mates dumped me, my girlfriend at the time turned out to be cheating on me, my Maker is dead and I currently have an empty keyboard box for a dining chair. Things are getting a lot better for me now but we all have rough patches, yeah? You may not want to hear this but things don't get better until you stop feeling sorry for yourself."

He'd needed that same truth told to him once too. Patrick hardly having been as gentle about it. Arlo's words firm and yet hardly harsh as he offered them, that lopsided grin still in place as his own hands tucked into the pockets of his baggy jeans, his own sigh falling from him then. She was either going to listen or slap him or walk away, at least he could say he tried to help her right? Even if it wasn't the sort of help she'd been looking for.

"I'm sorry I didn't come back sooner, I didn't know you wanted me too and besides, you didn't come looking for me either- you could have. So I kinda think we're even."

That almost gentle smile was still in place, the vampire attempting to conceal his fangs all the same in some effort not to look terribly toothy though whether he succeeded he hardly knew. That money held out towards her all the same. Calliel shaking her head and waving it away, Arlo almost reluctantly withdrawing his hand then, asking whether or not she wanted the company. The girls head tilting down then. Damn, he'd gone and upset her all over again. Maybe it was a stupid thing to ask. People rarely wanted to accompany a vampire anywhere, well, outside of other vampires and his Little Bear. Arlo half inclined to simply say goodnight to her and leave her be. That soft assurance that she wanted to get something to eat seeing his own head tilt slightly. His shoulders shrugging again, those words touched with humour then.

"I'll buy you dinner if you want? It can even be more than eight dollars. What type of food do you want? I could go for fries maybe, is there some place around here with fries? We should probably avoid any sort of Asian food place, they tend to be kinda suspicious of vampires in general and always wave incense and stuff at me. Anywhere else is fine though."
