Anacosta Heights

Situated above the daily life of the city, Anacosta Heights is a tucked away suburb featuring extravagant neo-gothic inspired mansions. The inhabitants of this neighborhood often show their overwhelming wealth with sports cars lining their long, circular driveways, large pools, and manicured gardens. The homeowners of Anacosta Heights treasure their privacy as seen by the high iron gates to the security personnel present at every entrance.

Dupont Circle

Dupont Circle is a small suburban neighborhood settled within the serene portion of the southern portion of town. These four-bedroom, single-family homes feature back yards, porches, garages, and far more breathing space then the Village offers. This neighborhood often is more family orientated and even has organized events for children and the neighborhood as a whole.

Hawethorn Village

Settled in the middle of downtown, Hawthorn Village consists of several victorian inspired row houses just off the main street. Due to it's convenience to just about everything, the village can be a tad expensive to live within. However, the residents of this neighborhood often have two to three-story townhouses, often with a one to two-car garage. Many of the houses feature bay windows and/or rooftop terraces with a small fenced-in 'yard'.

River Dale

River Dale primarily consists of apartments that, despite their age and industrial appearing interior, still hold to the Victorian history that permeates the town. These apartments are often the cheapest option and sport scuffed, older wooden floors, open floor plans, visible beams, and the occasional brick wall.

living like we're renegades

long live the pioneers
rebels and mutineers

She was distracted again, her fingers thrumming on the top of the counter this time instead of winding in her long hair. Perhaps because it was tied back now in a loose braid that draped down her back with only a few flyaway strands offered. Regardless her mind wandered, a habit she was in serious need of breaking as of late as it always seemed to leave her defenseless and surprised. Still having a roof over her head once more let her relax more than she had in months, but it was not without its own set of complications. Despite being shabby, dirty from disuse, and vastly unfurnished it was immensely preferably to the run-down sedan in which she and Grayson had been living by sheer virtue of having four solid walls and a floor. It had taken all her savings to pay for the deposit and first month's rent which meant she now needed to find a job and fast. Vaguely she wondered if the Cat's Meow was still open, the idea of getting her old job back the simplest thing she could think of though even it if it was closed there were no doubt other restaurants and bars in town that might need a new bar tender. There was, of course, her other set of skills that often brought the bigger payday but with the recent past still haunting her it wasn't something she was particularly eager to jump back into. At least not yet.

All this and more floated around her head, like the no-see-ums that plagued the warm summer nights in the southland she once called home. Aggravating as could be but almost impossible to see and entirely impossible to be rid of. Shuffling outside vaguely registered through the fog of her thoughts, perhaps louder than it should have been but the walls of the older apartments had always been paper thin so it wasn't enough to fully pull her thoughts from her inner reverie.

It wasn't until a decidedly male voice reverberated against the brick walls of the apartment that her head snapped to the side and her hazel eyes widened as they laid sight on him. "What the hell?!" There was more surprise with a touch of fear in her voice than anything angry, having missed most of his befuddled comment about her being a friend of his roommates and in his apartment. It all registered ambiguously as he trailed off and seemed to realize his own mistake. This did nothing to calm the racing of her heart or the goose-flesh that had been raised up her arms and neck. Her slender hands gripped the countertop as if it were the only thing keeping her upright, which it very well might have been, her world spinning as she tried to focus on him as he began speaking again.

He unleashed a veritable torrent of words, her blue-green eyes jumping around his almost frantic features as she tried to figure out what exactly he was talking about around the adrenaline that still pounded in her ears. It wasn't until the word vampire made it through the thrum that she managed to focus on him, that word perhaps enough of a jolt to shake the shock that had been gripping her so tightly. That coupled with his reassurance that he didn't eat people followed by oranges and apples raining down out of thin air and rolling across the old wood floors had her letting out a single breathy laugh out of sheer absurdity.

One hand still white knuckled on the counter the other released its grip to rub her forehead as if the whole thing might be giving her a headache, moving to run her fingers through her long hair to the base of her neck before looking back at him, his next word causing her to shake her head at the entire situation. "A teleporting vampire is telling me to lock my doors for safety." It was less of a question, and more of a statement into the world that seemed to highlight the absurdity of her entire plan to run back to Sacrosacnt for safety. She had forgotten the cardinal rule of the city, that literally anything was possible and if her past came hunting for her what could she honestly do to stop it? One of the pieces of fruit rolled to a stop against her tattered tennis shoes, drawing her gaze downward for a moment as she bent to retrieve it. She rolled the apple that had seemingly escaped unbruised despite its fall around in her hand as she straightened and looked back at him. He seemed harmless enough, harmless as a strange vampire in her apartment could be she guessed, and for his kind he did seem... different.

Most of the other vampires she had met, while not many, were all rather stuffy or at the least well composed and self-assured. This one seemed twitchy, flighty, obviously haphazard and it didn't fit the mold she typically put his kind in, especially the ever suave Seb. Still she was somewhat atypical of her kind so she couldn't really fault him, but the whole episode was just jarring. "Is this a habit of yours, appearing in places you didn't mean to? Just so I know for the next heart-attack inducing incident." It was a reach for the humor and sarcasm she had once so easily possessed, always used as a sort of shield from the reality of a situation. As far as this one went she assumed it could obviously have been a lot worse.
