"WHAT IS IT LIKE?" HE WHISPERED
"IT'S LIKE DROWNING. EXCEPT YOU CAN SEE EVERYONE AROUND YOU BREATHING." I REPLIED
There are memories here. They move and shape themselves behind her eyes, replaying scenes from what feels like a lifetime ago. Time has blurred again. Had it been weeks, months or years since she last breathed the air of this place? There is so much that is achingly familiar and yet new scents intertwine with the old causing a deep sense of unease to unfurl in her gut. Who and what did those scents belong to? Were they friend or foe? Would she be able to tell the difference? Did it matter anymore? She was but a stranger in the dark after all.

The silence of the West Side is so complete that a chill makes its way down Regan's spine. It was the quiet of the shadows and the eyes within them. She could feel each gaze upon her. Feel the silent judgment of those who managed to catch glimpses of her as she weaved through the thickening shadows. The darkness had always loved her, it was comforting to see not everything had changed. But the real question on her mind was how much. How much had the tides shifted in her absence. Would she be treated as an enemy of the pack, as a visiting stranger, welcomed back with open arms or worse yet, total and complete indifference? Only time would tell.

With silent and powerful strides the ebony tiger wove her way further and further into Pack territory. Yet somehow managed to keep to the outskirts of the surrounding forest. It was better here, less noise and smells. It had been too long since Regan had been surrounded in the stench of life that people and things considered 'other' gave off. Too much time in the wilderness by herself...forgetting how to be human and everything it entails. There is a darker edge about her now. Something sleeker and not easily defined but honed to a killing edge. The amethyst of her eyes is cool and the emotion behind them far away and removed. Perhaps it has been too long and the thing that makes you 'other' was dead. Had they finally succeeding in killing off the last of the things that made up Regan? Was she simply the assassin they had always dreamed she'd be? Had they finally broken that last piece of her? Regan simply didn't know. Was unsure if she cared. Didn't know what that said about her, but there it was for all the world to see. If they dared. Not many people, 'other' or not, were brave enough to get close to a tiger. Let alone the scarred darkness that was Regan.

Following a trail or a memory Regan found her way to an old clearing she used to inhabit. Weaving around the trunk of a tree she stretched up and sank her claws into the bark. Shredding the organic fibers and scoring the life beneath. A clear sign, signal and warning. She was here. Approach and your own risk and let the darkness take you.
