He had hardly considered, in all those years he had been away, just what had become of the vineyards that had once adorned the country around his palace in Turin. After all, during those years he had remained in Caserta the state of the soil of his other home had hardly been priority and yet, surely, someone might have thought to maintain them all these years? What of his staff? He knew the palace to be in good condition still, the government itself assuring him it was perfectly well maintained and yet of those smaller nuances he hardly knew. Still, that wine had been dreadfully bad all the same. Perhaps it might well be better if it had been ruined, if only for the purpose of starting again as Sebastian so suggested. The modern grape, he was sure, was vastly superior to anything he had grown in the fifteenth century. Dorian wholly willing to join that modern world and so revive those plants with Sebastian’s assistance. His utter affinity for life near demanded it from him in some fashion all the same. Dorian assured he could hardly stand to see a dying plant yet alone a dying vineyard. Sebastian’s soft nod of agreement was so readily followed by the Monarch’s further consideration of those other palaces. While Caserta was surely bustling with life and activity once more, and indeed Dorian wholly intended to maintain it as his official residence when in Italy, he had but another three palaces that had gone unvisited for centuries. Surely he was required to afford them some attention in turn? That very suggestion stirring that simper to Sebastian’s lips, the vampire seemingly more than content to indulge him in such visits. The idea of those further extended vacations they would surely have between the pair of them bringing that soft chuckle to his own lips, that ready grin following behind as his gaze met his lovers own.

“I quite look forward to it. Even the thought of seeing the world with you delights me.”

He uttered softly, his fingers tracing through those rich, green leaves as he wandered further into that vineyard. Dorian wholly content to suggest those other palaces might yet feel somehow left out from their lack of visiting. The Monarch wholly aware of his lovers tendency to project those emotions onto those inanimate objects he so adored. That wholly teasing tone so readily seeming to capture his lovers attention, the vampire murmuring something beneath his breath that Dorian was almost sure had been ‘poor palaces’ his own eyes rolling in that playful good nature then, another soft chuckle humming from within his chest then.

“Oh, Sebastian.”

His own head shook softly at that near adorable hopelessness of his lover. Dorian assured he had never known another being in all his life to so fret over the feelings of objects and yet, that ready quirk had become entirely endearing to the man. His gaze shifted towards that table at the end of the vineyard then. Dorian so eyeing those wines as the woman greeted them readily. Her smile seeming to falter ever so slightly at the sight of Sebastian. Martha so evidently rather surprised to see her employer out within the day, that ready confusion clear on her face as Sebastian so effortlessly attempted to brush that worry aside, Dorian himself eager to inquire of those wines to further distract her thoughts. The woman far too well trained to allow herself to perform her own duty inadequately. The questions abruptly forgotten as she hurried to pour those wines. Dorian wholly content to allow those queries to be forgotten. He had surely never held any discussion with his lover on so keeping that affinity for life between themselves and yet it had readily become an unspoken agreement between the pair- the risks of others knowing far too much, the implications to great, Dorian utterly unwilling to have other supernaturals aware of his skills.

It was almost fortunate, truly, the ease with which Martha hurried into her speech of that wine and how it was made. Dorian glancing to the side as Sebastian waved that wine away, the Monarch momentarily taken aback. In all the years he had known his lover he was near assured he had never seen the man turn down a taste of wine! That glass was lifted to his own lips, that taste decidedly enjoyable. Surely Sebastian did not disapprove of it? Perhaps he simply preferred white? Any further queries upon his lovers decided obscurity was near forgotten in the wake of that sight of his own Father outside the cellar. That surprise surely clear upon his features as he gestured towards the Frenchman then, only for the fellow to step from within that cellar and out into the sunlight. That man decidedly not his Father at all. He had been so sure! That wine was eyed almost warily then. Dorian half inclined to wonder as to just how strong it might well be, amusement lacing his lyrics then at the suggestion he had tasted one sip to many. Sebastian all but waving off that concern with the idea that it was surely the opposite, the Monarch so evidently requiring more wine as that chuckle rose easily within him once more, Sebastian having several of those bottles sent to the house before suggesting a white wine. Dorian wholly willing to try it.

The manner in which the vampire waved away that second glass of wine had hardly gone unnoticed, Dorian frowning readily now, that look of concern so crossing his features as that near uncomfortable knot of worry settled within him. How strange Sebastian was being! Surely he was not ill was he? Could vampires become ill? Could a living body become sick so quickly? It was surely foolish to allow such worries to consume him and yet when it came to Sebastian, Dorian was near incapable of not finding himself touched with that concern. The mere thought that the man he loved might be sick was near horrifying to him. He had seen so many die within his own time, so many lost to the plague or fever or any other plethora of illnesses that seemed to strike so suddenly that even the assurance of Sebastian’s relative immortality hardly seemed to lessen his worry. Sebastian’s assurance he felt fine merely seeing that soft frown touch features once more, that query as to whether he should feel sick prompting only further concern before Dorian readily offered his own observation. The glass of wine lifted to his lips if only to taste it for himself. Surely Sebastian could not dislike such a taste?

That sudden laughter that erupted from within the vampire saw Dorian’s own gaze lift upward. Sebastian assuring him that wine was delightful. The man, instead, so evidently concerned about his newly living body and the effects that alcohol might have upon it. Understanding so seeming to dawn upon the Monarchs features then. Of course! How foolish he had been not to consider it! It had surely been years since Sebastian’s body had so tasted alcohol with a living figure, what effects it might have on him now entirely debatable. That look of relief readily dancing upon his features as he sighed softly, the rest of that wine tasted far more eagerly now. The Fae King entirely oblivious to the real truth of his lover’s rejection of that drink today. Dorian simply far too thrilled with his lovers state of health to query it further. That warm simper settling on his lips now.

“I should have considered this, I hardly thought of it. Thank heavens but one of us is inclined to be sensible. I’m sorry, love.”

How ridiculous it seemed to have worried about such a thing! Dorian nodding softly at that inquiry as to whether he might like to try just one more, his attention returning to Sebastian then as Martha poured that final glass. The Monarch content to inquire as to whether or not their might be anything else Sebastian might desire to see before they wandered towards those water features, the show becoming slowly quieter in that growing afternoon. That gesture towards the large dome across the green readily saw his gaze lift towards it. The idea that it contained butterflies so seeing that momentary look of….concern touch his features. Butterflies, he supposed, were hardly the most terrible of bugs. Dorian assured far worse ones existed and yet still that…..fluttering they tended to perform was decidedly concerning. Still, if Sebastian so desired to see it, Dorian was entirely inclined to accompany him. After all, he had near dragged his lover about that festival all day! He could surely indulge the vampire in his desire to see those creatures that seemed decidedly popular with the crowd.

“Of course. I am sure if you desire to go in I can manage it. I’ve never been stung by a butterfly so far, they seem less inclined to attack me then other insects.”

Whether or not those words sounded decidedly confident or not he hardly knew. Dorian finishing that final taste of wine before moving to follow his lover through those gardens and towards that butterfly dome. It hardly took that crowd but a moment to notice their presence, several people turning towards them, several more lifting their phones to take photos. Dorian, for once, near oblivious to that crowd as he eyed that dome. The Fae near assured he could see several of those fluttering creatures already, his gaze wandering towards those brightly blooming flowers within. Those flowers, he was assured, he would decidedly like to see. How unfortunate they were surrounded by insects. That volunteer at the door gesturing to them then. Your Majesty, Your Lordship, would you like to go in? We can have the members of the public leave to allow you a few minutes to enjoy our butterfly display alone if you would like?

“Oh, no, no. I would much rather the public remain. If there are more people in there it is far more likely the butterflies might be drawn to others. I am fine to go in though, I’m sure.”

That near curious look the volunteer offered him was all but ignored, Dorian moving to follow Sebastian into that dome, the simple warmth of the room entirely pleasant, those blooming flowers utterly gorgeous. Dorian daring to peer at one of them with a clear curiosity before a single butterfly so fluttered away from the leaves above. That sudden sound of surprise hurriedly escaped his lips, the Monarch hurrying back to Sebastian then, his hand reaching readily for his lovers own as Dorian all but buried his head into the back of Sebastian’s shoulder as if his lack of ability to see those insects might somehow lessen his fear of them.

“I’m fine.”

Those words were near muffled into the vampires shoulder. Dorian’s grip upon his Boyfriend Consorts hand surely far firmer then it needed to be, several people chuckling softly beneath their breaths at the sight of it and yet Dorian so hardly found he cared in that moment. His other hand gesturing vaguely for Sebastian to continue.

“I shall just follow behind you like this, tell me when we have reached the end.”

If one of them touched him he was assured he would positively die and yet- Sebastian liked butterflies. Dorian wholly determined to allow his lover to see them. The things he did for love.
