She had never seen someone so happy about a dog before. In fact, most of the people she saw with dogs tended to look miserable or just down to business. There were the hunters that used the dogs for their dirty work. It was all "go get em boys!" and when the dog didn't do its job to the human's liking, she would watch from the bushes as they either beat them or threw them back in a cage in the back of the human's truck like it was where they belonged. Humans were so cruel sometimes. Then there were the snobby women that carried the little dogs in their arms with dresses and bows in their hair. It was downright insulting if you ask her. But hopefully he wouldn't do anything like that. He didn't look like a hunter, though looks could be deceiving. And he certainly wasn't a snobby lady looking for a purse dog. The puppy looked content with him and dogs were a good judge of character so Malia had to believe that he would be good to the dog.

When she told him that she made her own luck, he said that he didn't believe in it and that you can't blame your choices on luck. She scowled, tilting her head. "I wouldn't blame luck for that. I'd blame myself for making the choice. Luck isn't a person. At least I don't think so." Her voice trailed off a little bit as she thought about it. There could feasibly be a person named Luck somewhere in the world but she didn't know them. When she told him the puppy could walk, his voice got a little higher in pitch as he said that she was tiny. He cleared his throat afterwards as if just realizing how that came out and she couldn't hold back the amused smirk on her lips. Her eyes glittered. Now, that was just adorable. Finally she rolled her eyes. "Fine, but if your arms fall off, it's on you. Remember you can't blame luck for your choices." Her lips quirked as she threw his words back at him. "If you're lucky, I might even hold her for you to give your arms a break. That is, if you need me to."

At this point, she almost felt like he'd think she was going to steal the puppy or something and snatch it away like treasure. She certainly didn't want a pet. That was just offensive to her. But he seemed so attached. It really was pretty cute. She'd never seen a human act like that before. He admitted it was a good idea to explore the city but said he didn't want to get lost. She snorted. "You're only lost if you give up. Otherwise, you're just looking around." She could always smell her way back on track but he wouldn't have that ability so she didn't blame him for thinking he'd get lost. She mentioned mapping the area by scent, not really thinking about it in humans' terms until he laughed and said he would mark his territory while he was at it. Her brow raised and she scrunched up her nose. "That would be weird, but I'd pay to see that show." She smirked, her eyes gleaming teasingly at him.

She would have loved to continue the light back and forth banter they were having but apparently her day had other plans in mind. She felt the hairs on the back of her neck go up and when she heard the arrow being notched, she knew without a doubt that they were in danger. Her senses were waving like red flags so she reacted on instinct. She knew she needed to get him out of there. He was human so he was fragile. Not to mention the innocent puppy with him. She'd be damned before she let anything happen to her. So she grabbed him, intending to push him out of the way but instead they both ended up teleporting into an alley. She'd never done that before so it was scary for her. She was out of breath when they reappeared, her eyes wide as saucers as she looked at her surroundings, one hand finding the wall of the building next to her as if to ground her. Her attention only snapped back to him when she heard him hitting his knees on the ground. Her brows knitted together in concern, she turned to see the puppy licking his legs. He looked like he was in shock.

"You okay? Sorry about that. I've never done that before. Must be a new power. It was pretty cool actually." She mused more to herself on the last sentence, her lips quirking in wonder as she looked down at her own hands as if they held the answers. But then she remembered she was in the company of a human. "Oh, shit. I mean, uh....hey, I saved your life so there's that." She chewed on her bottom lip sheepishly, brushing the hair behind her ear as she glanced from him to the puppy. "She's okay. That's what counts, right? Those guys were totally going to shoot you with an arrow. I just reacted. Maybe we should take another way back to your place." She mentioned as she looked around, making sure the Hunters or whoever was after them wouldn't be looking down this alley any time soon.
