There was a sort of relief to be found in Arlo’s admittance that whatever possessiveness he felt for Sebastian was purely based on blood rather then any sort of emotional attachment. It was silly, really, to find himself so very concerned with that answer and yet, despite the Monarch’s efforts to contain any of those less than cordial attributes, he was hardly immune to his own more possessive emotions in turn. Dorian quite unwilling to share the very man he was to marry beyond that blood that was Sebastian’s right to offer whom he chose and those fleeting moments of affection the vampire was required to exact upon those he wished to feed from. Dorian long since having accepted such things. Rather, it was the very idea that another being might find themselves emotionally attached to his own lover that the Monarch was unwilling to tolerate. Those very emotions, that very love belonged to him alone. Arlo’s words working to sooth but any concern the Fae had held in any sense. Dorian finding that he rather believed the man and his admittance that it was Sebastian’s blood that might inspire any territorial action alone. That further inclusion that any desire Arlo had to protect Sebastian was simply because they were friends prompted that warm simper to his own lips then. It was silly, he was sure, to take such satisfaction in something so simple and yet he was pleased for the vampire pair that they had found in one another the sort of company they enjoyed.

It was Arlo’s own queries then, that seemed to shift that conversation towards species and the younger vampires belief that he might very well be the only one off his kind left any longer. Abigail quick to assure him that it simply could not be possible. The very idea seeming to prompt that consideration from Arlo in turn as he spoke of that bloodline of sorts that had brought about his own creation. Roman to Axel to Patrick before reaching Arlo himself. At least two of those men apparently deceased in the permanent sense with little known about the first at all. It was, perhaps, not wholly difficult to imagine why vampires might seek to be rid of other vampires like Arlo. For that very habit of preying upon others, vampires, it seemed, were unwilling to allow someone to prey upon them in turn. Whether or not any more from that Crusnik lineage had survived however remained to be seen. Dorian rather curious of that species as a whole, the Monarch given to wonder whether a book upon them could be found for his own reading before Abby’s explanation off her own species and that near virus-like transmission readily saw his interest shift once more. Dorin never truly having considered it in any sense until that moment. His ever curious mind relishing such an opportunity to learn as the young woman described those microscopes, the very sort he had seen in the science centers Sebastian had indulged him with visits too. The very idea of so witnessing that combination of bloods seeing his own eyes widen.

“Do you think you could show this to me? I should very much like to see such a thing.”

The idea of it! How terribly thrilling it must surely be to be able to see that very blood….live in a fashion. Dorian very much inclined to that wondering off how other bloods might interact with one another before Arlo’s question upon Fae inspired his own efforts to explain what little he knew off his own race and how they might be created by means other than birth. Such questions were surely better asked of a being like Matteo himself, Dorian never before having created another Fae and as such those rituals required had never been instructed upon him. Although, perhaps, such a thing was very much for the best. What little he did know of those transformations was hardly pleasant. The Fae King utterly uninclined to ever perform such a thing upon another. His silver gazed lifted toward Arlo once more at the young vampires assertion that there should be ‘tons’ of Fae if they could be both created and born. Dorian himself inclined to admit that, in theory, such an idea was very much the case ad yet that reality was distinctly different. Abby’s mention of that DNA, a word Dorian had only recently learned, prompting that nod from the man as he so considered best how to offer that explanation to Arlo.

“There are not many Fae, that I know off, whom merely create others for the sake of creation. Such rituals are not often performed without reason and repopulation is not very often a reason. As for the matter of birth, which I can only presume is the more preferred method of furthering our race, we Fae are notoriously poor producers. I do not well understand inheritance but from what I know it is so that whatever it is that is required to create a Fae child is very rarely passed on. To make such matters worse, Fae are not well famed for our fertility either. The chances of conception are low, the chances of a Fae child lower still. Most children born to Fae parents are human.”

It was a decidedly curious facet of nature, one that Dorian himself did not well understand if only for his lack of education upon the very idea of genetics and biology and yet he saw little need not to offer that which he did know to that small group of beings all the same. That further query from Arlo on just how many Matteo had made saw his own lips part once more only for Abigail’s near sudden outburst on just why Matteo might make others when Dorian existed saw his attention shift readily to the young woman. Those words faltering upon his tongue before that simper found his lips all the same. The woman looking near positively horrified at her outburst and the very suggestion so unintentionally laced within it. The Fae King allowing his head to softly shake.

“It is quite alright, darling. Fae have no connection to their Maker or those they made. We do not form bonds through such a union like vampires or Hunters or Were. Fae are free off this. I do not know quite how many Matteo may have made in his life, I have never asked, but those I do know of were changed willingly. They asked it off him.”

Dorian so paused in that moment, allowing his companions to consider that very thing as he sipped again at his refilled wine before so continuing. Dorian so glancing toward Sebastian then, that story about to come one the other man knew well.

“It is a terribly long story that I shall not bore you with but there came a time, many centuries ago, when I could not quite manage to leave my palace, nor could the human staff within it. Some of them chose to live their lives as human, to die as mortals when their time came, others, hoping that such entrapment would not last forever, so requested to become Fae. I….could not do it myself. I am not made for such things I fear- but Matteo- the only one amongst us who could come and go as he pleased, performed those rituals for those who desired to become immortal upon the agreement they would remain loyal to myself and my crown. Each Fae he made still lives today, each indebted to him for their immortality and when I so gave them the choice to leave my service near each one chose to remain. Though I insist they take holidays now.”

That simper so found his lips all the same, Dorian, after all that time, still capable of finding but even a shred of amusement in that imprisonment he had once suffered. The Monarch rather assured that five hundred years of loyal service was deserving off at least a little annual leave. Dorian determined those whom had suffered with him might too have that chance to live those immortal lives at last. The Fae so refusing to cloud that evening with talk of anything less than pleasant, even as he offered that story then. For all those Matteo had made, Dorian himself remained the man's only true son. Sebastian’s soft admittance that he would be more then willing to help Arlo navigate their own species, should he need it, only furthered that warm simper upon his lips. Arlo too seeming pleased with that very offer before declaring he had at least one question to be asked off them both here and now. That surprise so tracing the Monarch’ features as he glanced toward Sebastian and back to Arlo himself, his head nodded in that silent request for Arlo to continue. The Vampire promptly asking whether or not he possessed a ‘vibe’ they could find upon their ‘boy radar’. Dorian staring blankly toward the fellow then. What on earth was he trying to ask?

“Boy radar? What is-”

Arlo’s sudden assurance to Abby alone that despite his choice in jeans he was not gay readily seemed to prompt that understanding in Dorian. The Monarch desperately attempting to conceal that laughter that threatened to fall from is lips, such efforts near resulting on the man choking on that wine he had so unwisely chosen to sip at in that moment. Dorian quite unable to hold it back at Abby’s assurance it was because he was pretty. Arlo becoming only more irritable at that laughter that fell so freely and richly from Dorian’s own lips. Such questions! The Monarch so struggling to keep his features serious in that moment.

“Do you know, I quite suspect it is the jeans? They do make you appear all the more pretty. I can quite barely contain myself.”

Perhaps Sebastian might see fit to rescue the unfortunate Arlo from that fit of giggles and laughter so emanating from Abby and his own end of the table.
