Arlo James

See what it's like to be a vulture's lunch

Alright. Maybe he hadn’t exactly considered that crowns were probably made of like, gold and silver and diamonds and all that sort of stuff that you probably didn't really just hang on a hat rack. He didn’t exactly own one to compare it too and yet, really, Abby had a point. It was probably valuable and you didn't keep valuable things like that just hanging in the hallway. You probably didn’t wear them to dinner either. He was going to have to ask Seb about that. After all, Seb would have one too right? Arlo frowned slightly then in consideration of exactly what sort of event called for a crown and what didn’t. Hell, maybe he was glad he didn’t have one. Still, he was thankful for the conversation it seemed to have started. A part of him relaxing slightly more as Abby eagerly chatted away before her inquiry on whether or not Seb and Dorian had liked them seemed to derail Arlo’s own thoughts on whether or not Abby liked him enough to consider that dating proposal he was beginning to get all the more nervous about with every step. Seb and Dorian had said they'd like to have dinner again right? More than that, they’d invited them to their wedding. The Royal Wedding. You didn’t go inviting people you didn't like to weddings after all- unless they were your family and you had too. Arlo mostly sure that invitation to Abby and himself had been entirely genuine and because Seb and Dorian really had enjoyed their company tonight. He hoped so. He’d had a good time in the least and Seb was the first real friend outside of Abby he had made in a long time. A friend he intended to keep.

His efforts to reassure the young woman at least appeared to have worked, Abby suddenly announcing it would be exciting to go to Italy. Arlo, truthfully, hardly having considered the fact this wedding would involve him travelling to another country and staying in a Palace. Christ. This was going to be bigger than Ben Hur. If Abby didn’t want to go out with him this was just going to get all the more awkward. At least a palace probably had a lot of rooms and they could just go as...friends right? If she really wasn’t that interested in dating. He was sure he could handle that. Mostly. Why was life so hard when he was sober? Just what he was even going to wear to this wedding let along actually getting tickets to Italy and everything else that came with travelling so far stirred readily within his mind then. Arlo contemplating the sheer enormity of that task as they headed for those gates and attempted to make their way through that crowd of photographers.

“Sure, I’ve never been to Italy. I look forward to it.”

He did. He couldn’t remember the last wedding he’d been to and hell, maybe enough was finally going right in his life to get him invited to one in the first place. If he wasn’t so anxious about that conversation he wanted to have then maybe he’d even enjoy thinking about that impending trip and that new gig he’d been set with. God, it would be amazing to play again. In front of people too. Maybe that old band would see it. Fucking bastards. His head shook lightly in some effort to push those more intrusive thoughts away as they headed down the sidewalk- that night air pleasantly cool. The young vampire content to rehearse those lines over and over again. He wasn’t even sure how to start and yet if he didn't say anything now he never would and Seb would never damn well let him live it down. He had to say something. Anything. Maybe they should stop walking. He couldn’t walk and think about this all at once. Arlo at last managing to get those words out. The man oblivious to just how nervous they had made his companion in turn.

One hand lifted to run through his own dark hair, those bright blue eyes meeting his Little Bear’s own as he mulled those words over. He could hear the quickening of her own heart and yet his own nervousness hardly saw him register hers in that moment as he made some effort to reassure her he really had a good time tonight. That insistence that she had as well, that they always had fun perhaps bolstering his confidence just a little. Good. Fun was good. Good start. Strong start. Those words seeming to reiterate themselves into his mind among that plethora of others that seemed to be flying about in every direction. How did anyone even have this many thoughts all at once? Even Abigail seemed to notice that pause in his words as he struggled to find just the right ones- the girl herself trying to prompt him. Arlo finally managing to get that question out. That silence seeming to echo around them then. Was she supposed to not say anything? God he could feel his heart beating. That was a disconcerting feeling. Abby continuing to stare at him for several long moments before declaring they were already out. Arlo blinking near dumbfoundedly for several moments. Already out? Outside?

“What? Wait, no, I mean, yes we are out….but I meant…..yeah….”

The young red-haired woman seemed to realise her own mistake in the same instant. Arlo managing that lopsided grin at that touch of amusement even he had found in her mistake in that moment. That awful silence seeming to prevail once more, the young vampire attempting to fill it with that rambling assurance that even if she didn’t want to go out with he’d still be her friend and go to the wedding with her. Even if he spent at least one day in his room being moody over the whole thing. Amusement lacing his words all the same as if some part of him was still attempting to lessen that anxiety in them both. That almost hesitant admittance she had never dated anyone before seeing his features soften again, his shoulders lifting in a gentle shrug.

“I kinda figured that, babe. I mean, that's ok though, everyone's gotta start somewhere right?”

After all, everyone had to have a first date didn’t they? You had to start somewhere. Her lack of experience in dating and, well, a whole lot of other things if Seb was right (and he suspected Seb had a sixth sense for these sort of things) was hardly to much of a bother. Hell, he couldnt remember half his own dating life. He’d like to remember taking a girl on at least one date, even just once. Maybe they were both starting from the beginning….in a way. Abby suddenly looking away and down at the floor with that soft query on whether or not they could still be friends if they didn’t work out as a couple. Arlo’s head tilted slightly to the side then. Was she saying yes? God, he wasn’t sure. His own weight shifted about in his feet a few moments, his fingers run through that near-black hair again.

“Hey, Ab’s?”

He couldn’t do this while she was staring at the floor, Arlo lifting one hand forward to every so gently let his finger rest under her chin, tilting her head up towards him just enough to be able to meet her gaze. Something about seeing her far more relaxing even if he didn’t know why.

“I’ll always be your friend.”

He offered simply, that genuine smile finding his lips then. Amusement touching those final words.

“If you ever decide you want to break up though just, don’t leave me for a drummer yeah? Or a tuba player. Honestly i can tolerate any other instruments but not those. Are you saying yes though?"
