East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Now that I at least have a hint as to how old he really is, I know just how different our perspectives will be on certain things. He has lived through and seen so much that I can't even fathom how he got to thinking the way he does. I could never fully understand it, even if I tried so perhaps its best to leave it at that. I step back but I instantly regret it because the further I am from him, the more lost and alone I feel. He is safety and sanctuary. Maybe he always has been.

And so I step forward once more, eager to feel that feeling again. When we finally do part, I find myself closing my eyes and leaning into the gentle touch of his hand as he brushes some hair behind my ear. At his sudden remark about the job, my eyes widen for a second. I had totally forgotten about that. I guess the conversation kind of distracted me. But then I find myself smiling and before I know it, I'm giggling. "Do you have a deep conversation on death and make out with all of your barista's before they get the job?" I can't help but ask, my eyes twinkling with a tease as I smirk at him to let him know I'm completely joking. I couldn't help it. It just came across too funny that we just got done talking about that and kissing and then he tells me the job is mine.

I finally do nod though. "Of course, I do want the job. I don't think I'll quite fit in anywhere else really but there's nowhere else I'd rather be." I smile at him again, my eyes more affectionate this time as I lean in to kiss his cheek before heading toward the door. I glance back over my shoulder. "By the way, your new cashier...she's kind of cute." Leaving him with that tease, I push the door open and let myself out.
