East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Poor Atlas, the world is a beast of a burden

Caffiene and I didn't frequent. I never liked feeling jittery, and that's what the shitty sludge did to me. Thank god I didn't ever try something like cocaine, considering the jitter and the rush associated with the drug. Then again, caffeine was like your everyday average man's coke, yeah? A bit of a rush associated with it, carrying you through your mundane duties until something else can take over... Like a nap. Or a different drug. The fact that I was stooping to the level of espresso almost made me sad, until I remembered I didn't have the energy for it. I looked over my shoulder, wondering if the rain was going to end and the day was going to look up in any way. Then I reminded myself it was going to look up around 8pm when home, shower, and bed were far more likely than they happened to be at this moment.

"More of an extraordinarily long Monday than a long night."

I felt my jaw grit, realizing I was taking the bait for small talk or conversation that gave this man a look at who I was. Instinctively, that made me want a cigarette but someone with half a brain legally declared that tobacco was inappropriate for public and it made my fingers twitch, leaning on the packet in my back pocket. Why can't we be self deprivating in public? Oh, that's right, because someone decided it was bad for our he-... What... he's still talking?

I sighed, trying to shut my thoughts off or at least put them on vibrate long enough to hear what the man had said. The interruption was only to get me my drink; damn. I pulled a wad of ones from my unfortunately sad-looking wallet, not bothering to count them. I knew there was more than enough, and maybe the few extra would help quiet him. But the barista didn't take to that idea, instead questioning if I knew some blonde -... I felt my jaw tighten a few times, but I looked where he nodded. She was a witch, that much I could simply feel from the aura radiating from her. Which meant that he was more than a simple barista. Instead, he looked well muscled, his eyes trained, and his voice sturdy and even. Could he be a hunter? If he had been, I made a phenomenal target at the moment, but no one would try and take anyone out in such a public place without a prior display of violence or spectacle. So I shrugged, shaking my head.

" Not usually a fan of blondes," I muttered, before taking a sip of the drink. He was looking for information about me, maybe about her...? I wouldn't have blamed him, which caused a visible change in my demeanor. A little less cold, a little less frazzled, and soggy. " I am relatively new to the city," I continued, "Does that give you enough of an inkling about how much of a threat I might be?"

For once, I heard earnest tones in my voice. I didn't want to be lumped in a group of witches or warlocks who stirred trouble; if you were loud about the trouble you created, you no longer had a window in which to stir trouble in. Instead, though, I tried a smile on that may or may not have met my very light, icy blue eyes.

" However, I would be more than happy to be introduced-," But clearly she had already noticed. I pulled a few more ones from my wallet. "Whatever she would like, on me."

Seriously turning into a proverbial Monday.
