East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Ain't life just awful strange

a new world hangs outside the window
beautiful and strange
it must be I've fallen awake
I must be

Goosebumps pimpled the fair skin on her arms underneath her soaking clothes as a chill ran down the length of her spine. But Buffy didn't flinch. Instead she kept her eyes peeled on the blue pair of the vampire before her, watching him fidget and watching him continue to look for an exit strategy and fail. His effort made her feel surprisingly confident that she had the upper hand here. This was rarely the case with any supernatural being she chased. Most of her kills or captures required skill, of course, but were aided greatly by dumb luck. Wasn't it dumb luck that provoked her to follow the now deceased vampire down that alley? Wasn't it dumb luck that she arrived just in time to find this tall and thin vampire feeding off the other one? Wasn't it dumb luck that this dude made a wrong turn and ran into a concrete building? Buffy wasn't sure what her end game was here. She wouldn't kill him if he didn't force her to. For the most part, she was a woman of her word. Beyond that though, she wasn't sure what she would do with the information she collected from him.

Either way, she was starting to feel a little anxious about getting out of the rain.

The dark hunter's frame stiffened as the vampire disobeyed her words and continued to take a few steps in the wake of her warning. However, her arms remained at her sides, her fingers tapping gently against the wet denim at her thigh instead of reaching for her knife again. Buffy wanted to trust this guy. Truly, she did. But she knew enough asshole vampires out there to not be naive to what could happen next. This could be a ruse. It could be a game or an ambush. Her safety wasn't secure just yet. And neither was his.

Buffy swallowed hard as the vampire began to explain. She could feel her heart begin to race again in her chest and her lax fingers balled back into fists. She sighed deeply, trying to taper down the anxiety that was suddenly building in her. Buffy was well aware of the plethora of abilities vampires possessed over other creatures. She was all too familiar with the kind who fed off others' emotions. For a split second, Jason's face flashed to the forefront of her mind. "Yeah, you guys are multi-talented. I get that." She spat finally, in between her heavy breathes. "I've just never met one who was OK with killing his own kind and for his own gain."

Buffy squinted through the drizzle to gauge his reaction to her words, cocking her head to one side briefly as she studied him. "Listen, this isn't some kind of therapy session. I have to explain to the council how that guy down there ended up dead. Believe what you want, but I don't kill vamps just to kill them. It's my job. I chase the ones who are assigned to me. And usually, they're the kind that deserve to die." She eyed him hard for a few more seconds, and then began to back away from the open ledge of the building, allowing the vampire to take his exit, if he so wanted to. "Next time, drain him completely, please."

Buffy sighed again and peered over the edge of building and briefly down at the street below. Red and blue flashing lights illuminated the window panes of a building several block away, but in the direction in which they came from.

"I'm Buffy, by the way." She said nonchalantly, looking back over her shoulder to see if the vampire was still there.
