East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

i used to rule the world

seas would rise when i gave the word

That glimpse of surprise upon the young woman's features hardly went unnoticed by the Macedonian King, nor did it cause him to falter in any fashion. Rather, Alexander led her onwards through that cafe and to the hallway within the back portion of the business. He moved with purpose down that hallway only to push open the door to his own designated office. That room was peculiarly void of any sort of personal ornaments, the office clearly met for a singular purpose only, despite the antiques that littered the actual cafe room, positioned strategically upon shelves that hung high enough to be out of reach to most children. It was foolish, perhaps, to place such age old artifacts within a cafe in the public's view and yet, it had somehow seemed sensible, in some fashion, to at least show the world a glimpse of the plethora of treasures he had accumulated over the years. Here, however, there was a certain sort of methodicalness, one that was a result more of the strict orderliness required on the battlefield that took up the most of his life. Such was a place he surely belonged, not here, trapped behind a countertop in a quaint little cafe.

He pushed those thoughts from the forefront of his mind, however, as he gestured slightly towards that arm chair. Alexander made his way around that mahogany desk, settling behind it with his elbow placed upon the arm of his chair. His chin rested upon his hand, that position entirely lackadaisical, to the point of near disinterest as he asked of her previous experience in the retail industry. His gaze lingered upon her, never once straying at she spoke and yet, it was those minute details that stood out to the ancient strategist. He was aware of that fashion in which she looked at him, unflinchingly, that smile never once leaving her features. He was aware of that straightness to her back and her hands positioned within her lap with such care that it reminded him of the aristocracy of his youth. Women these days rarely had the grace and poise of old, that at least, almost inclined the man to her. Almost. His attention refocused upon that tale of her employment history, she was an easy candidate to fit into his own position, near anyone could see that. Any normal cafe would certainly pick the girl up in a heartbeat - and yet, The Inner Sanctum was hardly as normal as that first light might offer. It held a particular sort of dangerousness for those ignorant or mortal souls like her.

That warm laughter upon her lips prompted but a ghost of a simper upon his own and yet, despite that lack of response, Alexander remained wholly attentive to that glimpse of her life that he was given. "So then...you moved here recently...why? What was your plan? Where do you see yourself in five years?" There were very few individuals, after all, that worked in a coffee shop for any long given length of time. Such little stores tended to have a high turnover rate - it was something Alexander had come to expect and that inquiry fully intended to find out her plan. Was she doing this as a side job for college or was this merely some sort of temporary gig until she found something better? After all, while he was fully aware of exactly the sort of job he had to offer her, Alexander had little intention of teaching her the ins and outs of his business if she intended to vanish in a mere month's time. It would hardly be worth his effort then. Though, experience wise, she certainly seemed to be a solid fit with her open schedule and willingness to work, there was still one additional other thing that saw the man hesitate.

"Sacrosanct..." He begun, his gaze finally dropping from her own in careful consideration of those words he intended to offer the woman. He had little notion of how naive she might be of the world that surrounded her. There were still souls out there that denied the existence of other species and he needed to know exactly what he was getting himself into if he hired her. "...is a rather unique city...and the Inner Sanctum is a rather unique cafe. What do you know of the...supernatural?" He inquired, quite purposefully leaving that topic rather broad. After all, her answer would provide him all he needed to know of her knowledge of those others that surrounded her. It had to be something she knew how to deal with if she intended to stand behind his counter. The Inner Sanctum was well known as an establishment that was more akin to a sanctuary of sorts, those rifts that separate the species all but near banned here under the watchful eye of the age old hunter. She had to know how to handle those incidents, how to know who was dangerous and required his presence and whom she could merely chase from the cafe. It was a precarious situation and Alexander had no desire to throw her into it unprepared.
