East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

His parents had never been pushy when it came to finding his life partner. His dad was pretty much pushy in everything else, like getting a steady job or hounding him about dropping out of school and electing not to even try for college. But he could care less who Taylor chose to be happy with. Taylor didn't even think he liked Becca all that much while they were dating. Of course his dad pretty much never approved of anything he liked. The only thing they'd ever managed to do together was build that damn bike. And then his dad kept wanting him to sell it, as if it was just a reminder of any kind of father/son bonding they would ever have. At least they had his sister Kari to be proud of. She had finished high school with honors and went on to get her masters in psychology. He couldn't even stand to be in the same room with her for more than a few minutes because she would start psycho analyzing him, asking about his life and then putting on her doctor glasses to tell him how to run his life and find happiness. He hated shrinks that wanted money from him. He certainly didn't want one for free.

His sister was happily married with two kids and the last he heard, they were even trying for a third. He thought that was a little outrageous but who was he to judge? Just the failing younger brother who never made anything of his life, at least according to his dad. His mom was much easier on him. She always assured him that she loved him no matter what and she was proud of him. She tried to ask about his life and she really did try to bond with Becca cause she saw that she made Taylor happy. But Becca was hard to get to know. She had a lot of walls. Maybe that was what kept Taylor's attention. She was a constant challenge and he thought he'd finally figured her out. Turns out he couldn't have been more wrong. He never had pets as distractions either. His dad refused to allow a dog or even a cat in the house. He saw pets as useless food mongers, a money pit he wanted no part of. Taylor's mom once almost allowed him to have a goldfish but his father put his foot down and made him flush the fish down the toliet in retaliation for going behind his back. Once he moved out, Taylor thougt about getting a dog or something himself now that he could but he needed a more steady income first. And probably to live somewhere other than a hotel.

His dad had tried to lay good foundations for him as a child. He made sure he could read twice as good as any other kid in his class and he would have to sit at the table for hours on end while his dad lectured him about math until he could do all the problems without asking questions. That's how Taylor learned how to just pretend he knew the answer and scribble something out, mostly mumbo jumbo, and don't ask any questions so his dad would think he didn't need another lecture. He hated math. And don't even get him started on history. His dad loved to tell stories of the wars he wasn't even a part of and the politics involved but Taylor tended to tune him out. History just bored him. But he was a fan of repeating history. He had a habit of rescuing damsels in distress and getting himself hurt in the meantime. The drunk was disgusting, trying to lean in for a kiss like he was actually going to get somewhere. Taylor was really holding back his urge to hit the guy now but he didn't want to accidentally hit the girl. He could tell he wasn't the only one pissed at the guy's word choice. The woman looked furious. But luckily the man turned his attention on Taylor, cracking a bottle over his arm before Taylor got a lucky punch in.

As soon as the bouncers appeared, Taylor knew he wasn't getting off the hook anytime soon. Though he was just defending the woman, he would be seen as a trouble starter and would get thrown out for fighting. He knew it before the third bouncer came walking over. He would go quietly; he had no beef with the place. But he had to know that she was okay. That it wasn't for nothing. She responded that she was and thanked him to which he gave a warm smile and nodded in farewell. With that, he walked out the door, ready to find another place to drink that's maybe a little more on the quiet side. When he heard heels clicking behind him, he hardly expected to turn around and find the woman he had just stood up standing there. His brow arched, tilting his head as she told him how she appreciated what he did, then she introduced herself. He smiled again. "It was no problem. I just hate seeing someone getting harassed, especially when there was literally girls all around him being paid to get harassed." He smirked a little and held out his hand. "I'm Taylor. Nice to meet you, Adelaide."

He had almost forgotten about his bloody arm. It had trickled onto the floor of the burlesque as he was being escorted out and now it was just steadily dripping to the concrete. He knew he should probably try to get it cleaned up before he goes anywhere else. Might need to get the glass splinters out too. He was about to excuse himself to do that when she suddenly looked at his arm then back up at him, asking to clean it as repayment. "Oh, you don't have to do that. It's just a little scratch. Its repayment enough that you didn't throw your drink in my face afterwards. Believe it or not, that happens." The sad part was, it definitely had happened more than a few times when he decided to play hero. Seems women now a days don't like to be saved as much as they used to.
