East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

dance to the rhythm of your heartbeat

Since that night on Halloween, when she'd been walking down the dark streets from that party she'd gone to, it was hard for the blue-eyed blonde not to wield a degree of uncertainty about those around her that she knew nothing of. To say that the attack had been a wake-up call for Beylani was a gross understatement. It had shaken her to her core, so much so that every night she did not find herself on that snow-covered ridge in Somnia overlooking the quiet little village that Andras had shared with her, she would still have nightmares of that dark figure that had been lurking in the shadows. Despite knowing that he was dead, that he could never hurt her again, having watchrf as Andras crushed the undead's chest and ripped that still organ from behind those shattered ribs, the young woman couldn't forget how she'd felt that night. As though it had been borne out of a horror movie, she'd been alone. She'd thought nothing of it really, though it was when that feeling crept along her spine, those hair standing on end as she stopped beneath that single streetlight peering into the darkness of that alleyway, that Beylani's mind began to warn her that something wasn't right. He'd called out to her softly, asked her for help and that he was lost trying to find an address. How foolish she'd been, and yet all she had wanted was to be kind to another when she was still so very new to Sacrosanct. The next thing she knew, he was grabbing at her arm and pulling her against him as he receded further into the alleyway out of sight. She could still remember that voice, how venomous it had been as it dripped into her hears, his breath brushing against her skin as her heart raced wildly within her breast. She could remember the pain as his fangs pierced her skin, remembered the weakness that overwhelmed her as her mind was overwhelmed by that sedated sensation driving her into the arms of unconsciousness... She would awaken with a start on those nights, her breathing rapid and heart pounding, and the rest of those dark hours were spent restless and yearning for the fae man who'd saved her life and stolen her heart when she'd never intended to fall for him in the beginning.

And so, she watched the man with that stark white hair carefully. She couldn't quite place what it was about him that made her wary, but she battles against it for fear that she would seem rude which was the last thing that she wanted to do to anyone. If only she were like Ellie. She looks over to the honey-blonde woman who is practically beaming a smile at the man who meanders almost lazily towards them, around the tables only to lean against the one across from where the women sat. It was almost alarming how warmly Elain greeted the man, how she hardly seemed to care at all that he more or less ignored her existence as those unusual violet eyes fixated upon the blue-eyed blonde woman that watched him with a careful curiosity. She was almost entirely certain that he was the man that everyone warned her of, that should he come up to her from across the front counter with demands needing met she should quickly oblige. He didn't seem mean... He certainly wasn't kind or warm, his expressionless face only adding to that sense of quiet and subtle unease in Beylani, but if he had wanted to hurt either of the women for any particular reason, wouldn't he have done so already? He answers Ellie bluntly, blandly even and Ellie gives him a curious look then, but then his violet eyes shift from Ellie and back to the young woman who held the position of barista here. His remark in regards to her name was simple, betraying nothing of what he might truly be thinking, and Beylani simply smiles politely at him."Thank you", she answers him kindly as she always did when someone offered her a compliment. What is he thinking? Holding her tongue despite that almost reflexive want to tell him that he should have asked before simply helping himself to the carrot cupcakes that Ellie had surely worked hard at making, deciding that if Ellie wasn't concerned in the least, the younger woman simply watching the man with intrigue bright in her pale blue gaze, then there was really no reason for herself to take offense to his actions. At least, this was how she reasoned with herself to keep quiet about the matter.

When she speaks again, his gaze lifts to focus solely upon her then as his lips shift into the smallest of smirks in amusement, the first true sign that he did feel. Of course he feels, he just doesn't show them. When he presses her further on what she'd been told, he hesitates for a moment."Only that you don't need to pay for the food or drinks here", she answers truthfully. He reveals his name to the women, confirming with Beylani that he was in fact the man that she was told to mind, and when he shifts his attention back to Ellie, the blue-eyed blonde can see a smile dancing across her lips as glacier blue eyes glitter."Oh, you're good! How did you know I was gonna ask that? Are you a mind-reader?", she asks almost breathlessly, Beylani's own eyes widening in surprise though Ellie is quick to realize why he'd said it."Actually, you probably just get that a lot, huh? Sorry", she adds quickly, that smile turning a little sheepish and yet still that warmth filled the younger woman's features so naturally, like it was all that she was. When Frost comments on the cupcakes, his praise practically has her beaming at the man, Beylani left in a state of wonder at how she could be so friendly towards someone that clearly wasn't the most warm of individuals."Aww, thank you Frost! I'm glad you like them! If you like, I can make some just for you next time I come by", she says sweetly to him before a girlish giggle falls from her lips."Gosh, maybe I should think about becoming a chef instead of a teacher. What do you think, Lani?", she says with mirth dancing over her words as the honey-blonde turns to Beylani, who turns away from Frost and offers her friend a warm smile in return."I think you'd be great at both, Ellie", she says sweetly in that sterling voice to the other woman sitting across the table from her. In truth, Beylani believed that Ellie could do anything that she put her mind to. After all, she was doing wonderfully as a waitress at the Beachside Bar and Bistro when despite the admittance to the blue-eyed blonde that she hadn't ever had a job like that before. It only made Beylani that much more fond of the honey-blonde woman, how she seemed to share that same determination to do well in anything she became involved or interested in.

It was when Frost seems to decide to muse Ellie's curiosity of those unusual violet eyes that the blue-eyed blonde finds her own gaze shifting back to the man with white hair. His explanation was certainly an intriguing one, though it did make sense."Whoa! So it runs in your family? That's pretty cool! I think my family only ever had blue and green eyes, nothing super special", says the honey-blonde as she gives the man another bright smile as. Amusement flickers fleetingly across Beylani's baby blue depths then as she listens to Ellie, all too sure that the man before them would hardly care about the words she'd spoken so warmly. She wasn't entirely sure what it was about him other than that near expressionless way he regarded the two women that gave her the impression that he would likely ignore Ellie again, but she knew that the younger woman would hardly mind however he chose to respond - or not respond. Her gaze shifts back to Frost then when she feels his eyes on her once again, meeting those eerily calm violets with silent caution as she watches him idly pick at that treat in his hand before posing a question for her alone, his gaze returning to the partially eaten cupcake for a moment. Why was he so interested in her position here? Was he concerned that she might give him trouble?"I do. I've never worked at a café before, so I'm learning new things which makes it worthwhile", she answers him casually, a soft smile upon her own lips as she kept her gaze steady on Frost while she attempts to draw on the confidence that rested there beneath the surface of that unease, the man seeming more interested in that sweetened break for the time being. And yet, that attempt is quickly faltering when those violet eyes meet with baby blue once again, his next string of words catching her off guard, eyes widening in surprise, hardly aware of how Ellie is now giving her a knowing smile as she fought back the giggle so clearly close to bubbling over her lips. Beylani can feel that warmth tickling the skin of her cheeks once more, her heart beating only just a little faster as Frost chuckles in faint amusement at her."I, um... haven't messed up too badly yet if that's what you're implying", she replies, her voice faltering only slightly as she neither denies or admits to his words. Beylani refuses to let her gaze fall from his own like they so badly wanted, practically yearning to dart away and out the window to feign having spotted something interesting outside through the ever shifting crowd. She can feel that defiance trying to rise in her now as she so boldly dares to meet his challenge, even when it was clear that he had the upper hand in more than one way, that the young woman hardly stood a chance when it was increasingly apparent that he was much more than he appeared.
