East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Something wicked this way comes

It was cute how nervous he seemed to get at the insinuation from Adele plus the fact that I kept it going with my little insert. I shoot a devilish grin his direction while he tries very hard (and unsuccessfully) to peer at his book. He is patient. Doesn't press me about the details of my thoughts. It is a kindness as I was mostly a private person and hated laying my problems out before others. It wasn't his fault that I was born into a family surrounded by maniacs. Why should I expect him to be the one to shield me from it? Yet I sense that Erik would do it. I'm not sure if it is merely his humanity or if it is specifically me. Was he drawn to me? I am lovely, I suppose, but unremarkable in comparison to the variety of faces he has seen in the centuries of his life. Of this I have no doubt. I won't question it too much though as we test and toy with each other. Whatever he thought of my original appearance didn't matter. I think it is clear interest I see in his eyes or that roguish smirk he gives me that sends a sort of thrill down my spine. My cheeks burn but my stomach tingles.

I expected him to back down as I challenge him with my words. Instead he rises to the bait, twisting my words into more innuendo that makes my face turn red and keeps my pulse pounding. Darwin is rather annoyed at my persistent digging and leaps off my lap swiftly with a backwards look that makes me think he is saying 'deal with it yourself.' I give the cat a sideways look but by that time Adele clears her throat and rises. I give her a soft smile as she takes my plate, shifting a bit with the need to offer my help but not wishing to offend. Instead I glance back at Erik slyly. "Maybe I don't," I agree flirtatiously, a small smirk given. It is unwise to throw out such yet I'm not sure if I would reject any advances he gave me. A bit soon but I was a mix of shy and forward at times. I doubted very much that Erik would hurt me even emotionally though how I could know that, I wasn't sure.

I tell him of my frustrations with my magic. A bit here and there about my parents. I had felt empty after their deaths and alone. Now I was angry and uncertain. Was my entire life built on a lie? I wonder if they raised me hoping I would manifest so they could then snatch me back, clutch me to their chests and use me for their purposes. Whatever the truth, I couldn't consider it for now. Now was the time to fix my current problems. Erik had solved a few by letting me stay here and easing my stress about it. Adele helped a lot too plus having my cat back. He reached for my hand slowly, as if giving me a chance to withdraw if I wish, but I allow it with curious eyes as he smooths my fingers out. The touch is electric, sending a thrum of pleasure up my arm from the skimming contact. His words are sincere. I don't need any truth telling abilities to know that one as I lock eyes with him and nod mutely. I believed it when he said it.

We'll. What a wonderful word. I give a sort of resigned sigh at his condolences. "It was," I said. "Is. Well. It is confusing at any rate." I am not sure how to say what I think. It would be a shame to ruin their memories if I started spouting off my theories without proof so I quit the subject in lieu of my magical one. Erik is like a teacher with his soothing voice and I consider his words. "I have a little," I admit. "It isn't all bad. It's just... every time I use it, it grows stronger. The Coven that placed the curse on me draws from that strength. I'm tied to them through some sort of blood rite and magic." I growl a bit, frustrated. "They put a damper on my other magic as a teaching tool so I would only have access to the shadow magic. Erik, is is as if they cut off a limb. I have arms but cannot use them, that sort of thing. I can heal too ya know. Like actually heal a cut or a wound with a simple touch. If Adele was to slice herself right open in front of us I could save her life but I can't do that now. Never could heal myself though." I'm rambling a bit now, my tiredness starting to take hold, my thoughts growing jumbled again.

It helps knowing I would go tomorrow to begin my search. Not sure HOW Erik planned to go with me and I give him a stern look. Did he plan to cover up while we worked? "Just don't blind me with that glittering skin of yours." I wink and grin at him. I rise now, slowly. "If it's alright, I think I would like to lay down." A yawn bubbles up and I cover my mouth with my hand for a moment.
