East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Isn't that the way life goes?

cardboard is boring, we brought our matches - look how it burns

He was a tough read, the warlock with a face that she wondered was stuck in that permanent 'I hate life and everyone in it' sort of scowl. Men, she found were quicker to resort to that kind of scowl. Maybe that was the reason why women ended up with the ability to give birth, because women could just handle more shit. She was on to something. She was sure of it, even if it wasn't entirely groundbreaking. Her teasing words were met with a mere vague shrug that was matched by his equally vague open-ended words. Oh? She would like to delve into what those stranger things were, just to test the kind of man he was. How certain she was that they were probably meant to be insulting. They typically were. A single inquisitive brow hiked upward as she eyed him from across the table. Yet there was a hint of a note of intangibility within his words that she couldn't quite pinpoint. Amusement? That didn't seem to match with that warlock across from her. Hm. Harley allowed her own amused expression to linger.

Yet she doesn't exactly stop there. When did she ever? She could see the look in his eye, that look that seemed to think that he had her pegged. Like he knew her kind. Oh buddy, he had no idea. He wouldn't be the first being to underestimate her and he certainly wouldn't be the last. Yet, he didn't quite do anything quite so grievous to send off her bullshit meter like a cracked-out rooster at dawn. Yet.

So instead, as she sipped her drink like there wasn't a vampire barfight behind that was rapidly spreading. She truly hadn't meant for that to happen. Why couldn't vampires just let her be? It was then that the raven-haired woman found the perfect moment to propose a toast. Hope. She began. What an unlikely thing to leave her lips. It took a great deal to keep that sarcastic smirk from her features, even as comical as it was to watch his face fall flat. How certain she was that he was already forming something snappy to say. However, before he could utter a single syllable, she breezed onwards. At the last moment she'd twisted her own words that did little to curb his unimpressed expression. Which, truly wasn't that much a difference from his cheery demeanour before.

She earned herself yet another shrug of his broad shoulders, dismissing her what she felt to be a toast with finesse. It was a shame more people didn't appreciate her more. Still, the raven-haired Were appeared the perfect image of unconcerned as she rose her drink in a lazy sweeping lift in the air to her equally lazy toast but the warlock was not finished. His voice caused her to pause as her mid-lift as he tacked on his few words. Hope that her presence did not disturb his drink. Oh... It was going to take a whole lot more than that to steal the wind out of her sails. Yet it did earn him a true huff even if she was far from offended. "To unrealistic expectations then." She corrected with amused sarcasm. He beat her to taking a swig, that she followed shortly after. Everyone deserved to finish their drink. Even crabby, brooding warlocks. Even her.

The warlock then seemed to notice motion behind her. So it was it escalating then. She had kind of hoped either the two men would make quick work of one another, or simply forget of her existence completely. Yet, it would seem that the two sparring vampires were far too evenly matched in braincells to move on like normally functioning adults. Surely, they could have found an easier willing victim in the time that it took them to spat?

So it would seem that the warlock and the were would be unable to get what they wished. Maybe it was true that misery loved company.

She twisted in her seat to gather a glance, as she took note of a mean right hook that collided within the other vampire's jaw with enough force that would break a mortal's jaw or worse. She winced slightly, especially as glasses had also been sent to their early demise as they crashed to the floor, left to mere shards amongst the remains of the unfinished drinks that pooled onto the floor.

The world would be a better place if most of the vampire population just stayed at home and practiced meditation. She unfurled back in her seat, truly unsurprised before she brought her drink to her lips. It would seem she was on borrowed time and even then, she chose to live in the moment, where she somehow managed to linger outside of the crosshairs of catastrophe for the time being. What were the chances of being able to finish her beverage before the fight had spread?

Yet it hardly seemed to pause the conversation. That question he inquired was a loaded one, her vivacious gemstone purple eyes met his brooding stare. In fact, she was a little surprised he even asked. Did she always attract attention from their like? Meaning vampires. It was almost laughable. She considered his words with a slight pinch of her brows determining how she would answer it. Hm. Her lips quirked just a little to keep her true thoughts on the matter hidden. "You can say that I attract vampires like a pirate loves treasure. Like the devil likes to sin. Like a magnet to metal... Honestly, I just attest it to shit timing." Was there something more to it? She wasn't certain and couldn't be bothered to entertain the woe-is-me song and dance about it either. But it would seem that her plan for that night to simple people watch and have one drink was unravelling by the second. That was the true travesty here.

For a moment there was silence. Silence that was soon overpowered by the sound of angry shouts. A woman this time. Wonderful.

Harley attempted to ignore them all, at least for a little while longer as she stole another swing of her drink even when the temptation to turn around again was so terribly strong. She tilted her head, as she swirled the liquid in her glass. "Do you think there is any way that .... that will just go away on it own?" She questioned, the woman nodded in a loose gesture to symbolize behind her... Yet her tone seemed far from hopeful. A girl could dream, right? Or better yet... come up with a plan.
