East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Dark hair is pulled back, secured with a band to keep it out of her face, though several strands had pulled free, scattering about her delicate features. Dark circles ring below her eyes, and honestly, the woman looked simply exhausted. Miya was supposed to have been off last night but an emergency surgery has called her in and it had taken over seven hours to finish. She felt like the walking dead and it wasn't the first time her mind wandered back to the evening that Dareios had given her a drop of blood. The way it healed her wounds and battled away aches and pains and exhaustion. The feeling had been intoxicating, one she wanted to experience again. And then shame overrides her, she was better than that, Miya had gotten along just fine in the hospital before Dareios has given her his blood, she felt like a drug addict when she thought about it. Heaving a sigh, she digs her hand into her pocket, retrieving her phone as she checks the time.

She didn't have enough time to go home and shower before the meeting the board put her in charge of and she had been in such a rush to get out of the house she hadn't grabbed the bag that would allow her to shower here. Frowning slightly, she slips her phone back into the lengthy white jacket all doctors wore. Maybe she would just get coffee and something to eat while she waited. Pivoting directions down the busy hallway, she cuts a path towards the elevators. Punching in the 1st floor, she's rewarded with a moment of silence, beyond the elevator music, as she rides the elevator alone. Miya can't help but slump against the wall, her eye lids feeling heavier by the moment, but she doesn't get long as the elevator stops and the doors slide open with a ding. Pushing herself off the wall, she drags her feet out and is met with the delicious smell of coffee. The smell alone perks her up a bit as she pads towards the espresso bar.

"Can I get a shot of espresso and a double shot, actually make it a triple shot, twelve ounce latte with a packet of sugar," Miya asks the barista, when she acknowledges her, Miya offers a smile, "Thanks Kelsey," digging in her pocket to pull out her wallet, her fingers wrap around empty air. "Crap, hey Kels? Can you put it on my tab and I'll settle up with you before I leave?" She asks as the barista looks up at her, grinning, "You forgot your wallet again, didn't you?" she teases the doctor, tamping down on the coffee grounds before sliding it into the machine, "I was in a rush, I was called in last night for emergency surgery," Miya explains apologetically, "I'm teasing you, I do expect a large tip from you tomorrow though," the barista winks at her before sliding the single shot of espresso before her. Miya's delicate hands wrap around the cup before bringing it to her lips and blowing on it gently, "I promise," she agrees before tilting her head back and taking the shot of espresso in one go. The burning sensation on her tongue is minor and it dissipates before long, Miya tossing the small cup in the garbage next to the stand.

Kelsey slides over the small latte, Miya grabbing it gratefully, "Thank you, I owe you," Miya says gratefully before giving the woman a small wave. She supposed she would eat when she got home, she didn't expect the meeting to take overly long but then again, the board didn't tell her exactly what the meeting was. Merely a new study or something like that, she was surprised they didn't give her more and even more surprised they wanted to put her in charge of it. She was many things but not a scientist per se, she was helping with the testing of vampire blood on patients but that was it. Sighing heavily, she never knew what the board was thinking, there was no point in wracking her brain over it, she learned early on it was easier to just do what she was told in the medical world. Miya steps into the elevator and isn't as lucky this time as a few more people crowd in, the machine stopping every few floors. By the time she's reached her floor, more people have piled in. She smiles politely as she slides through the heat of bodies and steps onto the research floor.

She was still a little early but having nothing else to do she heads off towards one of the more private labs, letting herself in and taking a seat. It was smaller, cozy almost as her chocolate gaze observes the small room. Stainless steel tables, two computers in the corner, it felt sterile, more sterile than any other room she had been in, in the hospital which was saying something. Sighing, she slouches heavily in the chair, bringing the latte to her lips sipping the life giving liquid while she waits.
