East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I was grateful that Harley was open to listening to my story. I could tell she was giving me her full attention and I think it helped to loosen some of the earlier tension in our interaction. By the end of my explanation, she confirmed that she would do it, but warned that it wouldn't be cheap. I nodded my head. "That's alright. I've got some savings." I offer with a smile. Luckily with staying on the pack boat, I haven't had to really pay any bills so all my earnings from the Cafe were easy earnings. Something in her eyes seemed to come to life when the subject changed to the tattoo, like her thoughts were on fire. She seemed to move as if in a trance as her fingers started scratching and sculpting the drawing on the paper. While she worked, I tried not to stare, not wanting to make her uncomfortable or make her lose her concentration. Instead, I took the time to look around her shop, surprised at how comfortable I already felt here.

I did note the way Harley's features seemed to soften into something more approachable as she worked, but I tried not to dwell on it out of manners. A small smile tugged at my lips as I looked around. She really had a passion for this stuff. It was easy to tell. I could tell she was satisfied when I told her the sketch was perfect...and it was. Everything about it seemed to echo with the picture I had already in my head as I described it. The minute details she added just made it that much better. She said we could start now and I couldn't help but feel a little giddy. Of course the nerves were bound to come in after. What if I was underestimating my pain tolerance? I would never live it down if I started crying or whimpering while she was working on me. Finally I took a deep breath and exhaled, giving her a nod. "Sounds good. I'm ready." And by the time I said that, I was indeed ready. The excitement had returned and I was ready to wear this new skin.

I listened attentively as Harley explained the next steps, how I needed to remove the clothing that got in the way and make myself comfortable. I certainly didn't want to make it hard on her so I nodded and stood up, turning to remove my shirt and bra and set them on a counter before I sat backwards on the chair so that my back was toward her. "How do you need me to position my arms? Up across the back of the chair or down at my sides?" I wasn't sure what angles she would need for the skin to lay the right way while she did her work. I just wanted to make it as easy on her as possible. It did feel a little strange to be half naked in a public place, but it's not like there was anything to be nervous about. This was my pack mate and it was a professional setting. If anything, that only added to the excitement. I listened as Harley rummaged around behind me, grabbing colors and all the supplies she needed. The humming was surprising, but actually comforting. I found myself relaxing to the tune. I couldn't place the song though.

When Harley mentioned backing out, I couldn't help but shake my head with a grin. "Not a chance. You got me too excited after seeing that sketch. I want to see it come to life."
