East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I feel relief flood through my system as he assures me that I won't have to wear that outfit, that I can wear whatever I like. I give him a dazzling smile in answer, the relief obvious in the glow of my bright blue eyes.

"Oh! That's good."

He seems lost in thought for a moment and I wonder what he's thinking about, my head tilting as I search his expression. Whatever it is, it must be pleasant. At least, his face looks a little happy about whatever it is. I make my decision.

"I'd love to work at your cafe then. When can I start?"

I ask eagerly. I watch the way his eyebrows furrow in doubt when I tell him how clumsy I am. I can tellhe doesn't believe me. He'll find out sooner or later, especially if I'm going to be working with him. I am eager to see the plant if he ever gets a chance to show me. I watch with the same eager expression as he blows over his cup and hands me one too. He moves to sit across from me and for once, I don't find myself tensing at his close proximity. If anything, I feel more safe with him here now. I've always been fast to trust though once I get to know you.

As I bring it to my lips, I can only think about the smell and look of the chocolatey beverage. I can feel teh extreme warmth on my hands through the mug but it never dawns on me to let it sit. So of course I end up trying to push the hot liquid down my throat so I don't spit it out, my eyes watering with the new pain as I put my hand to my lips. He nods and tells me I had to blow on it and I slowly bring my hand down, wiping at my eyes before I gently lift the mug to blow softly across the surface. The steam rises off of it in waves and I feel entranced by watching it swims away from the drink as I blow on it.

He tells me it will stop hurting and I can only think he means my throat and mouth. My lips burn and the roof of my mouth and my tongue are on fire. My throat's no better off either. When he asks for something cold, I contemplate, looking forlornly at my drink. How will it be to go from something col to something hot? I know I want the drink. Will having something cold make it taste differently? I bite my bottom lip thoughtfully before I finally nod my head slowly.

"Yes, please. It burns a little..."

My voice trails off as I glance back down at my drink, wishing it would cool down so I could try again. I couldn't focus on the taste around the hotness so I feel almost cheated.
