East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Don't fret precious, I'm here

Little angel go away, come again some other day.
The devil has my ear today.

"Doll, nothing is fair."

The young fairy brought up a point that happens to be a lingering long-time favorite of mine. I thoroughly enjoy pointing out the advantages someone doesn't have, especially if said advantages are sincerely out of their reach. Call me crass, but who doesn't love a moment where they're towering over another because of their success? Or whatever else fuels their fire. I've spent a long time building up my tower of success or however you want to call it... when the little fairy brought up fairness and any kind of social equality, I couldn't help the rather impolite smirk that threatened to turn the corners of my lips upward. Surely the knowledge that I had something to do with the evaporation of an entire fae kingdom was unfair, but who was I to care if she hadn't heard something important to her own species? This elicited a shrug and a fairly nonchalant arch of one of my eyebrows as if challenging her to ask me more about it.

The inflated ego surrounding the woman finally encouraged that smirk to ascend to my lips. I crossed my arms and began to lean back against the back-rest of my chair, a Cheshire grin lazily brightening my expression as if I'd caught prey. Pride in all her glory wandered over to our table, loftily crossing her ethereal arms over her chest in an approving gesture, positioning herself behind me as I was the object of her attention. I never minded Pride... there was little downfall to her presence. Lust's gaze moved from the fairy to Pride, only to acknowledge her briefly before returning to the object of her attention, Sam. Pride stood tall behind me, her condescension nearly tangible in the thick air of the Burlesque. Perhaps Serafina would feel it too; the need to rise above our waitress swelling in her chest. Then again, perhaps not as Envy still hadn't left our table, leaving us with more of a crowd than I would have liked.

Truth be told, I enjoyed watching the Sins enact their specific vices. It was fantastic to watch them slither through a crowd and attach themselves to willing, beckoning beings. The Cat's Meow was more than a perfect locale for such spectacle considering the patrons, the dancers, and the employees all had their fair share of naughtiness just waiting to be revealed. Gluttony would remain with his drinks, slurping them down until his heart's content. Envy looked far too comfortable, his features twisted into what could only be interpreted as an amused smirk. Lust, my most common companion, happily sat between the two women as if she had nowhere else in the world to be, twirling a lock of the fairy's hair between her elegant fingers. As for me, I remained comfortably and lazily seated at Serafina's side, my lips twitching again at the words she used to describe the fairy.

"Aren't they all conceited?"

In my experience, each and every fae I had met conducted themselves with an air of condescension to be rivaled only by vampires â€" that very fact alone encouraged me to dislike the race. Alright, maybe it's not fair if I say I don't like the race as a whole... I don't like much, as a whole. The individuals who had been fortunate enough to cross my path were a different story, though. I could say I didn't like them. Rather than get lost in a diatribe about my distaste for other creatures, Serafina's words gently tugged me to deliberate over a reply on whether or not I was frightening the waitress.

" I don't think she'd leave, even if she wanted to."

My counter to Serafina's words encouraged the young woman to stay put and let us toss her in the air like a cat with a mouse. Who was I to take away Sera's fun?
