Ashes to Ashes

The petite vampire child appeared very pleased, even proud, as Dorian followed her instructions and righted himself on the ice. The notion of his peculiar predicament being in the papers though was lost on her with a small simple tilt of her head before it was quickly forgotten. Anna joined Dorian at the wall he now held to for dear life once more. At least he had made it across the rink. "You can't get better if you don't practice." Surely Dorian didn't mean to give up at everything if it presented a challenge. Even so she seemed to not feel the need to press him further about it. Dorian had at least offered to remain and watch her skate for the remainder of her desired play time.

It was as she was considering the other skaters circling the ice that Dorian asked after whom had taught her. Such memories of her past were hard to reach even at the best of times. It was that thinking back, that digging prompted by his question, that brought a clarity to her eyes that was rarely there. "It got them first." Her voice was barely above a whisper at that fragmented memory that her equally fragmented mind grappled at. "The smell was-.." Her nose crinkled as if she could smell the rot of their flesh. "Everyone but my sister, she was at the castle, a lady to the princess. I thought it got her too but then I found her-...no..I didn't find her, not her...pieces of her." That clarity was slipping as the memories became blurred, unable to tell fact from fiction. Surely her mind was playing tricks on her. She remembered seeing her sister's face, but...not really her sister. An imposter perhaps? Yet the clothing...it was all wrong. Anna's head shook, one hand lifting to press to her temple with her face wrinkling. How those memories pained her and how much easier it was to slip them back away behind that wall and simply be the killer she was made to be. Killers didn't have emotions to plague them.

Those hollow sapphire eyes were once more steady on Dorian as if the experience had never happened. "I will skate and you can watch me." That airy delighted tone was back in her voice, gracing the fae with a smile before she pushed off from the wall to join the others. Anna glided with ease amongst the others, accomplishing spins and a few jumps. Her gaze kept glancing over at Dorian to ensure he was still watching her as he had promised. As long as she had an audience she was happy; it was simple attention that she craved most times. Perhaps that was the lingering part of her child's brain. Either way it was easy to please tonight. It took only a half hour for Anna to tire and cease her skating once more at Dorian's side. "I'm tired. You can go now." With that she released Dorian from his promise as she too exited the rink, exchanging the skates and slipping away into the shadows without another glance.
