deep breath in and i come alive, it's a feeling i'll remember for the rest of my life
~ ~ ~ ~

Once upon a time, the fae woman would have loved the idea of traveling the world. To some degree, she still did wonder about what rested beyond her small rural hometown or this large city. Outside of Willowhaven, Sacrosanct, and Somnia, Lani hadn't been given many chances to explore beyond those familiar realms. She remembers a time where she'd nearly had the chance to go to Italy... with Andras... to Dorian's wedding. It wasn't hard for Lani to recall the nervous excitement she'd felt, although that had mostly been due to the idea of spending so much time with the fae lord in an almost intimate sense. Back when she had been human, she would blush at the thought of wandering that foreign countryside, venturing through city streets in what would have felt like worlds away from everything she knew, all at his side. How butterflies would have been aflutter within her stomach, her far-skinned cheeks wearing that blushed hue Andras had always been so wickedly capable of bringing forth. And yet, she never had been able to make it to that wedding. As it would later become known, Fate had had different plans for the blue-eyed blonde woman. Plans that, for the last three years, she would have given anything and everything to take back, to undo. Yes, she knew that it was silly to wish for such things, to look up into a night sky from the confines of her childhood bedroom and wish upon every single silent and glittering star with tears in her eyes that she could go back in time and change her future... but it had been out of sheer desperation to escape the heartache and anguish that she tired, however futile it was.

Lani no longer finds herself wishing to undo her past now, though. Instead, she finds herself once again finding within herself a hopefulness for whatever the future held. The time for mourning what she'd lost three years ago was coming to an end. Now, like reborn blossoms under spring sunlight, Lani was ready to truly move forward.

The fae man standing in front of her begins to speak again, his thick accent like warm espresso and perfectly frothed milk. It was rich in its authenticity, smooth and somehow comforting to the fae woman. Perhaps it was simply because Serigo wasn't the common, calloused, and cold city dweller that she was familiar with."I know that I was pretty nervous when I first came to this city. It can be a lot for some when you aren't accustomed to a fast-paced lifestyle", she replies warmly, allowing that truthful confession to slip past blush-colored lips. She couldn't remember the last time she'd told someone such a thing about herself... In the time that Lani has called this city her home, it was surprisingly hard to find others who were warm and inviting like the majority of those within her hometown. At first, it had been a culture shock for the blue-eyed blonde woman during those first weeks of residing within these city limits. Whereas she had grown up her whole life knowing the sense of family that came with tight-knit communities, it was all to easy to feel... alienated from the rest of the world in a place like Sacrosanct. Back home, nearly everyone knew each other on a first name basis. It was entirely common - if not expected in a way - for people to greet one another as they were passing by, often with a friendly wave and kind smile. In a town like Willowhaven, where it was hardly a feat in any sense to learn faces and names, there was always a feeling of comradery and companionship among the residents. They welcomed new faces just as warmly as they would friends returning home after years of being away.

Here, there was hardly a kind word to be said among complete strangers. So very few knew - or cared to learn - the names of those they shared the bustling streets with. If one was lucky, they would get a casual greeting or polite apology for getting bumped into, but that was rare. Here, it was easy to feel alone.

Sergio continues, making mention of but a small part of who he was, his masculine voice teeming with a sense of certainty and encouraging a warm smile to Lani's lips once more. It was clear that the fae man was comfortable with who he was, and this was yet another quality in him that Lani found endearing. Had she been anyone else, surely the fae woman might have even been a bit envious of his self-assuredness."You certainly carry yourself with a sense of self-confidence, though far from in an arrogant way", the blue-eyed blonde remarks warmly, finding the fae man more endearing with each moment that passed them by. His next words coax soft laughter from Lani, those notes like small silver bells in a summer breeze, gentle yet genuine all the same as Sergio very nearly displays his ensemble before flashing a bold smile and practically posing for the blue-eyed blonde. A heartbeat later, her laughter blooms as the Latino man is laughing in his own jovial way, a goofy smile upon his handsome and chiseled features once his spectacular show of prowess and charm was over. And, although Lani had been aware of the way strangers had turned to watch both her and Sergio as they somehow seemed to be wrapped up in their own little world for the time being, the fae woman finds herself hardly concerned with the sea of strangers moving around them and those curious or less than kind sideways glances they were given."You're quite something, Sergio. And I mean that in the kindest way possible", Lani says then as her laughter fades with his. How contagious this man's warmth and jovial disposition was!

It went without saying that the fae woman would never have expected her day to bring her here, laughing so openly with a perfect stranger whom in a surprising way reminded her of home despite being from a different world entirely. She couldn't help the warm smile from blush-colored lips as she simply admires him.

After he seems to collect himself, though the jovial nature hardly leaves his warm eyes of molten milk chocolate, his masculine voice reaches her delicately pointed ears. She feels a subtle warm upon her cheeks at his generous words, her smile softening."The pleasure is all mine, actually. It's nice to meet someone who's so friendly for a change. It's been a long time since I laughed like that, honestly", she replies sweetly in return. No truer words could have been said in that moment. The last soul she'd ever enjoyed the company of in this way had been Ellie. However, she dismisses the thought as his thick accent fills the air again, this time telling her that he'd only just arrived. From Brazil no less. She was about to speak when suddenly she realizes how much more crowded the streets were getting, the fae woman having to step closer to Sergio and the glass window of the café to avoid being bumped into, smiling apologetically up the fae man then."Would you like to go inside and maybe get some lunch? It's getting a little busy out here. My treat", she asks, gesturing to the café they were standing in front of. It wasn't like her in the least to ask someone she'd only just met to share a meal, but she wasn't entirely sure how much longer they could linger on the side of the street without someone deciding to tell them they should get a move on or something. And yet, she wasn't quite ready to bid him farewell just yet. She wanted to get to know the fae man. There was something about him that just seemed to gravitate her towards him, and she wanted to see if she could discover what that something was that made it so easy for her to smile.
