The conversation is easy with her and yet I feel the urge to keep it going as long as possible. Usually I lose my patience with humans since they seem so easily distracted, their attention span about as long as their lives, but she gives me all of her atttention when I talk and I don't feel like I'm only getting half an ear. I like that eery time I touch her or say a compliment, she giggles like a school girl and her cheeks rage like a wild fire. It's enough to make me entertain thoughts of charming my way into her bed. I haven't slept with a human in a long time. Since my prodigy's death, the idea of killing the one responsible has consumed me body and soul. I had time for nothing else, including sexual urges. Sure I've had plenty of offers and I know vampires back home that would be more than willing to open their bodies and beds to me but they're not on my mind right now. All I can think about is the blushing, stumbling mess of a girl before me. Something about her bumbliness is....charming.

Even as we stop dancing and I offer to walk her home, she hasn't let go of my hand but you don't see me complaining. I even make a point not to look down or draw attention to it, wondering if she'll notice herself. I like the warm sensation of her smaller hand encased in my own. It almost feels like protecting someone again. Maybe I should have thought about turning someone after I lost Alice but the thought of teaching a new vampire all over again what she learned through a thousand years together with me just seems like a waste. Alice knew me better than anyone and no one can replace that.

As we move out of the establishment and onto the sidewalk, I make a comment about the stars and she follows my gaze, her soft voice full of awe even as her feet get the better of her. Even as she reaches out for the bench, my arm is already around her waist, ready to steady her so she doesn't fall. As she apologizes and laughs, I let my arm slowly release and return to my side.

"Maybe your body is rebelling against noticing the simpler things in life."

I offer a rich smirk as we continue walking, my brow rising as I feel her slight arm wrap daringly around my own.

"I'd rather you not scrape up that pretty face, whether I'm here or not so let's agree that you won't fall."

I flash her a small smile, distracted slightly by the warmth of her arm as it holds her body so close to my own. I really should have been having sex because I've always been more of an animal that notices too much when I don't for a while. Of course, I haven't had temptation until tonight. She turns the subject to her job which thankfully gives me something else to think about as she starts describing how much she loves it. When she asks about me, my shoulders straighten a little.

"Entrepeneur for the most part. I used to own a night club but I sold it before leaving my home town. There's been too much traveling to really settle down into a job since so I guess I'll have to figure it out as I go along."

I pause for a moment and glance up once more. I sniff the air as I do, making sure that we are truly alone. I don't like lurkers and I know the hunters seem unable to leave me alone in this town. I do note a seedy man stalking us a few yards back but I know from his smell that he's human, unfortunately for him. He's toying with something in his jacket so my guess is he plans to mug us once we get a little further from town. I glance at my companion, wondering if she'll be the type to scream or run once he bears down on us. I could put a stop to it right now but my body is yearning for the release. Instead, I look for a new subject.

"So, any pets?"
