I stutter over my words, staring blankly at t bartender who seems to be growing impatient. Finally I sigh and ask for a coke. She looks me over with disgust, wrinkling her nose as she mumbles something like "whatever" and saunters off to get me a can of cake. I shift on my bar stool, glancing nervously toward the door but luckily those men haven't come in yet. They seem to be loitering outside the door. I glance toward the group of men further down the bar, looking away the moment their gaze shifts to me. Why does this always happen to me? Where's Raven when I need her? I'd even take Tobi on a night like this. At least his presence would make the other men sway from their purpose when they see that I'm not alone and maybe not so much of an easy victim.

I can hear them getting closer. I've almost forgotten about the guy further down the bar, the one I'm sitting closer to. He's pretty quiet so less distracting when my wires are fried like tonight. I only glance up a moment as he brushs past me to go smoke a cigarette. I wrinkle my nose up at the smell. I don't see how anyone can stand it. Smoke is just a bad smell. It means fire and danger so why put it in your mouth? As the voices get louder, my eyes dart around the bar, wondering if there's a second door to get out of. What if they come in and try to corner me? Should I go to the bathroom? I bite my bottom lip. No, there's where all the girls get murdered in scary movies. I glance at the bartenders, wondering if they can see the growing panic in my eyes. Apparently not cause they're still serving drinks.

The guy with the cigarette comes back in and I note him touching the door in a purposeful way but I think nothing more of it as he moves past me to take a seat again. That's when I hear the banging. My head snaps around. I can hear their angry voices through the door, something about someone locking it on them and stealing their prize. Are they talking about me? I gulp and jerk back when the guy starts talking. His low voice may have been to soothe my fried nerves but when anything can scare me, a low sound only makes me more jumpy. I snap my head around to him, my hands gripping the edges of the stool tightly as I shake my head.

"I don't know. It just always seems to happen to me. I shouldn't have come into town today. I should have just stayed home."

The last part comes out almost like a whimper as I hang my head and put my face in my hands, wondering what I'm going to do next. The banging is only getting louder and it must be a matter of time before someone lets them in. What will they do to me once they catch me? My heart is hammering in my chest as I play through the worst options.
