There might as well have been a siren going off in the room. My adrenaline spikes up for different reasons other than Kohl's wandering hands the moment the weres start to congregate around the witch and hunter at the door. I know the hunter as Azrael, also a member of the council and devoted to the cause, or so I'd thought. With the display I've seen so far, I'd say he's far too distracted by the witch to be guarding the door. Of course he could probably say the same about Kohl. I scowl at the thought, as if remembering him and turning my gaze back to my dance partner, already seeing the mischief in his eyes. I could drown in those eyes but I feel my blood spiking at the tension I can feel in the air. I know something's about to go down and I am craving to be a part of it but something tells me Kohl's going to try to get me out of here before I can endanger myself again. I swear, that boy and his protective streak. He thinks I don't know the real reason he tolerates going out on hunts with me now. I know it's not just because he's worried about me being alone.

When I do look back at my partner, I can see that I'm not the only one distracted. He watched the spectacle too. I'm sure he has senses of a hunter, even if he doesn't want to accept it. He must know there's about to be action. I hate the fact that every time he touches me, I can forget about the cause and only want more of his touch, more of his hands roaming my body. I hate the way he makes me want to go find a private place so that he can explore my body while I explore his. I bite my lip, a nervous habit I've only seemed to have picked up when I started hanging out with him more. The way his eyes darken, my whole body suddenly comes to life as if it's been dormant this whole time. My skin tingles, aching for his touch in all the right places.

The sudden movement by the door has my head turning and I see the action taking place just as I thought it would. The curly haired were has been thrown against the wall and Azrael is going for his bow. My skin tingles in a new way now, the way a hunter's does before a big fight. My free hand is already reaching for one of my hidden knives when Kohl suddenly grasps my hand firmly in his own. Successfully distracted, I find myself following him even though I know he's not taking me to the fight. I part my lips for a protest, watching as Azrael starts his display. But before I can get a word out, we're out the doors and in the cool night air as Kohl turns to me, asking whose place we're going to. I feel my bottom lip poking out a bit as I glance back toward the witchery, sure that whatever's going on in there would be grand to be a part of. But finally I sigh in resignation.

"You don't seem to like my place so I guess yours."

His next words have my skin aching all over again. I start toward where I know his car is but then I hear something down the back alley. Grinning at Kohl, my eyes shining anew, I grab one of my blades and race toward the alley.

"Come on!"

I whisper as I creep down the alley, hiding behind a dumpster. There's two vampires I don't recognize from the party and someone else slumped against the wall before them. I hear the groan and my grasp tighens around my knife. It's a human, a girl and they've been feeding on her. It doesn't look like that's all they want from her though. I hear them chuckling as one grabs at her shirt, the other already running his slimy hand up her leg. I clench my jaw and look at Kohl, my eyes burning with justice.

"Tell me you can walk away from this."

I raise a brow, waiting for his decision. This is what we fight for, this is what I'm trying to get him to understand.
