Many such places are used to the sometimes peculiar requests of the otherworldly but here there is little that money cannot buy - whether it happens to be illegal or merely involves looking the other way. My Own Form Of CHAOS

She acts almost like a ballerina, walking more on her toes than her actual feet at this point. she seems so determined to help me in the matters of Isolt and I just don't know how to help her help me. I'm sure a part of her must want to just sit me down and interrogate me about everything Isolt just to get a detailed enough story to help her find the perfect gift but luckily her manners keep her from doing such a thing. She seems to only have good intentions toward me which is surprising because we just met. She knows nothing about me and she wants to help? I've done nothing for her but talk to her. The only thing I can guess is that she's young, that she hasn't seen the cruelty of the world enough to dampen her spirit, to steel her resolve.

She watches me way too intensely when I talk about Isolt, like she can read my every emotion. It makes me feel...vulnerable. She seems to know that she did good by mentioning books but I don't know where to go from there. It's not like we spend our time reading when we're together. I shrug my shoulders as I look around at the books in the shop.

"What kind of books are YOU into? Maybe that'll help me pick something for her."

I offer as an idea. I can see her smile fading from her lips and I hate to think that she went to all this trouble just to feed off my defeat and give up. I enjoy breaking the spirit of my victims, not so much a vampire acquaintance that I might actually like to call a friend. She tilts her head and I can see she's thoughtful but I don't like the doubt I see flickering in her eyes, once so bright and full of life. She still wears a smile but it doesn't seem as genuine, more forced than anything like its out of manners. She rbings up irish folklore and fairy tales and I smile a little more warmly as I nod.

"That might work. Something with pictures too. I'm sure she misses seeing the countryside."

My eyes offer a glimmer of hope. She says we can look and I nod, holding out my hand to say "after you." I walk to the shop door and open it for her like a gentleman, allowing her to walk through first before I follow her into the store. I look around for the shop keeper and I swear I see someone disappear out of the corner of my eye through a door near the back of the store. Scowling for a moment as I stare that way for a moment, I shrug it off and turn back to Yumi.

"Where do you think that section is?"

It's obvious I don't spend much time in book stores.
