Emile's maker was obsessed with Anne Rice's vampire character, Lestat. In 1977, Emile was visiting New York City from his home in Paris. He was discovered by his master and turned because of his resemblance to the character - physically, anyway. His master wanted a copy of the brat prince, and Emile was able to live up to the title; horrified at his immortality, angry at the injustice of it all, he lashed out at his maker, and the two had a truly terrible time for a number of years until Emile decided to strike out on his own. He treats his maker like an estranged parent even now, doing their bidding only when compelled to do so. He lives alone now, and in spite of himself and the hell he raised with his maker he has begun to appreciate that he'll be young forever as the world spins on around him.
