"I can replace what I lost in the fire"

The sun had just set on the outskirts of Sacrosanct. Inside a quiet gas station, a man wearing Aviator sunglasses and a black leather jacket was busy thumbing through the telephone book. Until he seemed to find what he was looking for, or rather, who. With a smirk on his lips, he rips out the page. He then grabs the bottle of Fireball Whiskey at his feet and walks to the counter, greeting the cashier. "Pack of Camel Wides, too. Say, you wouldn't happen to have a cell phone? See, I need directions. Dropping in to see an old friend and all I have is his number, but I want it to be a surprise. And well, technology and I aren't on speaking terms. Could you look up his address with his number?" The man shakes his head, but Aidan isn't aware whether it's because the man just doesn't want to, or it isn't possible. "Where's Dupont Circle then?" He asks, his tone deeper and toned with annoyance. "About half a mile from here. Straight down, can't miss it. " He slams the cash on the counter, grabbing the whiskey out of the man's hand before he could bag it and putting his cigarettes in his pocket. The tore out telephone book page is just thrown to the floor.

Aidan leaves and begins walking down the lighted, suburban roads, sipping his booze. Time slips as the alcohol takes affect. After accepting a ride from a stranger, with a little "nudge" of intimidation, Aidan finds himself at Dupont.

By now, he was nearly half finished with the Fireball, and as the stranger sped off as quickly as they could (tires skidding and all) Aidan could see a quiet neighborhood. Some houses' porches are lit, others dark. Still wearing his sunglasses, he stumbles in the dark to the first house. He could smell death faintly in the air, and it was a familiar smell. He knew he was close, but where he exactly needed to go was unclear. He had made it this far.

He bangs on doors, he pushes the doorbells over and over until someone answered. And every time he got the same response, some ruder than others. He couldn't tell how many houses he had been to by now when he stumbled upon a nice little blue one, with yellow flowers. Fenced in the back two dogs bark loudly and aggressively at Aidan as he walked along the fence line, to the point it started to annoy him. Picking up a rock, he throws it at one of them, yelling "Shut up!". It whimpers off, the other follows and both go silent. "Fucking dogs."

Before he could even get to the door, it opened and a woman in her night robe stands with the door half open. "I'm going to call the cops if you don't leave!" Aidan stops, stares at her a few seconds and then chuckles. "Did Mort settle down? Marry himself a little pistol like you and yells at the kids to stay out of his yard?" he takes another step before she opens up the door completely, holding a baseball bat, "I'm serious! Leave, you drunk!" He could see her blonde hair all in a bun. Her pink robe seemed even bright with his shakes on, her hand turning purple from gripping the bat and stands still.

Aidan starts screaming, "Mortimer! I know you're here! Mort!" believing his old friend might actually be in this house. After all, it had been years now since they last saw each other. In the end, even Crishlyn had enough and left him. "Mort!"
