East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Little angel go away, come again some other day.
The devil has my ear today.

Leaving Sacrosanct behind had been briefly difficult; I had some hesitation about leaving without saying a word of my whereabouts to anyone who might have missed my presence. Damon had come to mind, but I assumed he'd surmise something had happened that needed my attention elsewhere. Isolt might find a similar conclusion, but when I hadn't been paged or anything of the sort by anyone, it was far easier to fall silent and communication to fall dead. Much easier was it to simply slide back into my normal life now, and let the bees come to the honey than seek them out.

I wasn't as interested in my drink as I wanted to be. The whiskey was familiar and the way it burned as it went down should have given me those delicious shivers; this time it didn't. It didn't have the chance to burn on the way down as a voice interrupted my lips from touching the glass. Instead of reaching for the drink before the voice clicked to memory, I placed the glass down with only mild exasperation until the baritone voice registered.

"You must have lowered your standards. $500.00 is a measly fine, brother."

Damon's wry amusement with himself felt infectious. It transfered from his crooked grin to my growing smile, brightening both of our eyes. There was something comfortingly easy about our interactions as there always had been, as if a day hadn't been missed. In reality, that's how "friendships" are supposed to be, aren't they? Granted, in my fairly limited experience I've been friends with mainly men who would get you thrown in prison and leave you there while they exploited their freedom. However, perhaps that's more of a personal choice than circumstantial...

"Are you going to explain this sanction to me?" I nodded to the seat nearest me. "Sit. I was just thinking of placing a bet to whether or not that guy is a vampire and he's going to make a buffet out of those two blondes. You can buy in for a couple hundred if you so choose."
