East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

LITTLE DOVE

he waited seven more days

and sent the dove out once again

The muffin catches my eye and i look up quickly, startled by the sudden kind gesture. I feel warmth from her, allowing myself to indulge in the swift emotions of empathy to fill me like the coffee does. But there is something else there inside, a small hollow of loneliness that tinges at the edges of her aura. I can feel it, so subtle and so quick and I cannot help but allow the emotion of safety and friendship to flood into her. I am breaking rules in this, and hopefully she will not notice it is i that has made her feel a type of way, but i am grateful for the muffin and grateful for her kindness.

"thank you," i respond gently, my light voice sounding foreign to my ears. It has been awhile since i have spoken allowed to another, my introvert nature not allowing me to express thoughts to others without a tint of warm pink to reach my cheeks. I can feel it now, sliding along my face as the blush comes.

"i'm columbia," i offer gently, releasing one side of my warm cup to offer my hand as well. "do you have a break soon?" i usually don't care for company, I usually prefer my solitude, or well, what i have of it when she isn't around toying with my mind. But for now i wouldn't mind some company, I do not wish to be alone to my own thoughts and a distraction is well needed. A patron brushes behind me and i bite my lower lip. I can feel the impatience inside him, the need to hurry and grab a meal before work. I half turn, glancing at the suited gentleman and mumbling a simple "excuse me," before making my way out the door and to the secluded tables outside along the sidewalk.
