East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

FLORENTINE WINTER

She was not going to wait for Kearn. Beadily she eyes the food that drifts her way, carried high as though it were some royal or celestial feast â€" to Flora's stomach it may as well have been. The child wets her lips, saliva already pooling about her tongue, for how long had it been since she ate? Two days? Three? She cannot remember and decided not to as she handed over her grubby coins from her equally grubby hand.

Patrons eye her from their bar stools but the girl pays them no mind. She dares to even offer the bartender a particularly rude gesture as he suggests that she move to the more... child-friendly area of the pub. Her gesticulation is followed by an equally rude demand for a pint of their finest beer. It was quite unclear whether the bartender's smirk as he skulked off was one of challenge or thinly concealed admiration. He returns, however, placing their finest beer before her, his eyebrow raised and his smirk now more nasty.

Challenge then.

Florentine eyes the golden, frothy beer with interest. Her cheeks bulge with her liberal mouthfuls of food and it is an effort to swallow around each, but she manages admirably. The bartender keeps his watch, waiting, curious to see if the child dares to drink... And just how much she manages before she is vomiting on the floor.

Unsuccessfully smoothing the rogue, wild wisps of hair back into her untidy plait, Flora brazenly catches the bartender's eye before raising the glass to him in thanks. A sip would have been enough to assuage what little thirst she had, but our Flora was never one to step down from a challenge. She takes a gulp, in time to see Kearn walk through the brass doors of the dingy pub. Their eyes catch and she takes another larger and even more defiant gulp.

In a ladylike gesture, most at odds with her looks and earlier attitude, Flora places the pint glass delicately upon the bar top. Wiping the froth from her mouth with the edge of her sleeve, she turns to Kearn with a proud, if a little bleary, smile.

"Shoulda got here sooner." The defiant pleasure crows through each word as she smugly eyes Kearn. How long had she pleaded with him to get her a beer at the bars they passed or occasionally entered? Leaning in, a french-fry in one hand and her beer in the other, she adds, "Toldja I would find a barman willing to accept my challenge."

Popping the french-fry in her mouth, Flora slaps her grubby hand upon the wooden bar and crows â€" just a little too loud and a little too drunkenly- "A whiskey for my friend!"
