East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

and so we fall like toy soldiers;

we all fall down like toy soldiers

It wasn't the first time I had been around a pregnant woman. I knew their hormones and emotions were sky-high during the entire process, having been around a number of my sisters when their little ones had been born has taught me that anything to lighten the mood would do way better than formalities. Until they threw something at your head, then it was time to make yourself very scarce. I watched her just as she watched me, the way her eyes scanned me from head to toe to assess. I wasn't about to do the same, but she did seem a bit...young, to be running such a business on her own. But who was I to say? I was just the mechanic from down the road who would rather be boosting cars and having sword fights then actually being around a real job, I think it has got to do with the fact that nothing seems to hold my attention for very long. Besides cars, but I was handy though, that had to work in my favor.

"Ah, I'll give it to you then, may as well start before the babe even gets here. You'll be doing it a lot more afterwards."

I had sisters, remember? I was raised by women, a whole horde of them and the only way I got out of it was to run wild in the slums of South Africa. My English was heavily accented even after all these years, my brother and sister and I enjoyed slipping back into our native tongue whenever we were together, something that many people would be able to say. I was trilingual and only proud of two of those languages. The third could go to hell for all I cared. Her name was Nadya and I could tell that it fit her well, "'Tis a pleasure to meet you Nadya." See, I do have manners.

Have you had any experience bartending?

I have to grin a bit at her words, if there was anything I was famous for, it was for having a wide variety of skills. "I spent a year bartending on Virginia Beach" I say, lifting a hand and running it through my hair. It hadn't been a time I was proud of, but it was just another skill to add a notch on my belt. I couldn't cook for shit but I could make a mean cocktail.

Her attention was drawn away from me and I shifted to see where her gaze had landed. A young woman stepped in and the giving side of me wanted to take her shopping and see her fed but it wasn't my money to give, I sometimes had too generous of a heart, I knew what it was like to have nothing. I chose the job because it was a night one; I worked with my brother during the day and in order to keep myself busy I had wanted to pick up something for the night side of things. It would certainly keep me out of trouble and out of Dav's hair, right? Not likely.

Nadya mentioned the place needing to be 'put in its place' and I could only grin, "I may not be an electrician but I'm good with my hands." I said this before realizing how it could come off and just laughed it off. This must be a popular place right now, or it was a breeding ground for people, another woman walked in and the first thing I had noticed about her was her deep red hair and was immediately intrigued. I was always curious about those with different colored hair, especially if it was natural. Back home it was the same old brown color and only the eyes were different.

When Nadya asked about species a grin tugged at my lips again. "Fully human, but my siblings are all Witches and Warlocks." I was the unlucky one, forced to rely on my own sense of self-preservation to navigate my siblings' power-filled lives.
