East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

AND CUT MY THROAT

Booker suddenly felt bad for changing the mood between them. He doesn't want to look at her, as if ashamed. He doesn't even want to pet Darwin for comfort and lets the kitten scurry off to cling to his mother. Sorcha was the kindest person he had met since, well, his adoptive family. A complete stranger, taking him in and cleaning him up. He was a mess, inside and out, and the guilt of bringing down the flirtatious atmosphere almost made him just want to make an excuse and leave. But the hear of being rude kept him seated, and then the gentle touch of her hand holding his cheek.

Even the pain from the peroxide is minor because of her simple placement of her hand. Sure, it still stung like hell and his eyes squinted at it as she rubbed his lip and cleaned his nose. He kept his eyes closed the whole time, opening them barely just to see where and what was happening every few seconds. He chuckles at her joke of him dancing after this. His mind swirls with replies. Should I .. should I ask? But before he has the guts (because this is still a man too afraid to leave the couch out of embarrassment), she says something strange.

It wasn't strange in that it frightened him or thought her crazy. Witch? Potions? His eyes open up wide and he turns to look at her directly. He isn't sure how to respond. Was she joking? Was this a joke? The signs were vague and his knowledge of Witches and Warlocks was limited. After all, growing up around Weres, you tend to know more about them than anything else. Even what his mother had taught him, the topic of these people was short and even she didn't seem to know much about them. They were secretive, almost too afraid to reveal themselves and who could blame them after all the years they had been treated? "A Witch, huh?"

This was a delicate situation he found himself in. Either she was one, or Booker was about to make an ass out of himself. Swallowing, like he was drinking the air, he says softly, bluntly, "Like a religion? I know there are many who practice Witchcraft, like something Spiritual?" Okay, so it wasn't as blunt as Hey, you're a Witch who can cast spells and I know about the Other world, but it was the best he could do. Her eyes were so beautiful, and he can see for the first time how soft her dark hair was; her face was sublime. Darwin's meowing breaks Booker's attention and thoughts and awkwardly (after she had appealed the neosporin) he stands up, and looks at the door and then back to her. He forgets he was holding the half empty beer bottle. Oh God I'm such a light weight ... I'm already feeling buzzed. But he refuses to put it down or even take another drink.

Nervously, he stares at the ground. "Thank you. Thank you, a lot. For the patching up and the drink and all stuff." He points at his cleaned but still cut face. He bites his bottom lip, a nervous habit. "Um, well .. about that dancing. I was wondering, you know ... would you like to um .. maybe meet again? Like for coffee or maybe take that offer to go to a club or something. I mean, if that's your sort of thing or if you'd like. If you're busy or something I understand. Me - I have too much free time and well I'd- I'd like to see you again. Can't say I am a great dancer, but." He feels like his welcome has been worn out.

Honestly, he needed to just get sometime away and let everything settle. Booker had a crush, and whether she knew it, he had wasted all the social experience he had already. With puppy eyes, his eyes dart to her and back to the floor and to her eyes again, waiting. A boyish half smile on his busted lip and even though it stung to do this, he kept it on his face.
