East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Ain't life just awful strange

A new world hangs outside the window
Beautiful and strange
It must be I've fallen awake
I must be

Buffy never sat down and thought hard enough about vampires to question if her job was impeding on their civil rights. They were monsters, as far as she was concerned, a dangerous threat to all others. Their growing numbers made them dregs of society. She wasn't racist. She cared about people. Vampires weren't people. They were what happened to people who were infected with an unfortunate disease. No, she wasn't racist.

So the fact that she'd never thought about getting close to one of them, let alone ever sleeping with one, didn't seem strange to her. Even in this instance, at a speed dating event no less, Buffy did not look at the shell of a man wrapped in cold, dead flesh and think of him ever as a possible suitor. Maybe it was the instincts that came with being a hunter, because when she looked at Sebastian, a fire in her gut urged her to leap across the table and kill him in anyway possible. No, she wasn't a racist. She was a dark hunter. And she never applied for this job.

"I think it means you're a piece of shit." She said bluntly, leaning back in her chair and letting her spine roll, hunching her shoulders forward. No one ever said Buffy was very ladylike. She studied his facial expressions from underneath the straight cut of her dark brown bangs. He stared back at her so curiously, so calmly. Sure, there were plenty of foolishly chauvinistic vampires out there, but she could smell the fear on even the most self-centered and self-assured ones. But not Sebastian here. He continued on nonchalantly, asking her questions that slowly made her blood boil. If only he knew she could snap him like a twig.

She avoids answering his question, and instead collects her phone as it buzzes in her jacket pocket. Of course it's Leslie.

Leslie: "How's it going?"
Buffy: "I'm sitting across from a vampire. I hate you. *knife emoticon*"

"So tell me Sebastian. Why should I let you walk out here -- I would say alive, but we know that's not possible for you -- I guess, unharmed will work. Why should I let you walk out of here unharmed tonight?"

The buzzer rings. People begin to stand. Muffled voices and the shifting of shoes on tile fill the room. But Buffy's focus remains on Sebastian here.
