East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Mistakes were like typos on cosmetics, to me. Rarely did they happen twice, or in any fashion similar to one another. The cosmetics were often set on a sale shelf, or sent to a dollar discount store. Mistakes for me? Unfortunately, actions didn't have a discount store, but a plan B was in order, immediately. Plan B's were often second nature to me, I didn't have to do one of those movie-stunts where we regrouped and chose a new route. Mine were often more direct, resourceful and.. Oh look, maybe that fire extinguisher would knock the vampire's head off. On a totally different note...

Who the fuck forgot to tell me he was a vampire?

Frank hadn't exhibited any signs of vampirism. Granted, vampires were usually a hard limit for me and I avoided them, or made trouble explicitly. This one? I don't know what he did with his free time, save for a bit of blow on the weekends, but none of the other men at the table had said anything, either. Did they not do their research? I should have not left anything to chance... I should have checked into the fangs department. Didn't this fucking place use garlic? How about some holy water next time instead of the bullshit lemon water the restaurant served.

Most of the patrons had fled by the time my hands were around Fake Human Frank's neck. When it had snapped back into place, and his eyes opened, I sincerely wished I was wherever they were. The way his eyes rolled was slow, almost taunting in the way they focused squarely on me. I never liked the way vampires condescendingly looked at other beings; their gaze was unwavering and predatory, much in the way mine often was. But theirs? Fangs accompanied the condescension, and a crimson blood lust I understood only through a different kind of violence. Frank's chest moved beneath my elbow, and I want to go ahead and say that I sincerely wished I was elsewhere, especially now. I swore under my breath, feeling the absence of the beating of his heart or the movements of his chest alerting me to the impending threat. The exit was close, I could collapse the walls and open the floor underneath him to trap him beneath the trembling building before dashing out. I was no where near tired from the expenditure; I was just warming up. Destruction was my forte.

Quicker than I could re-break his neck, I felt fingers on my arm. Oh, shit. I turned to look, probably slower than I should have, as the realization I wasn't alone hit me like a pile of two-by-fours that built half the furniture in the room.

"You are mistakenly assuming I knew," I retorted, my voice much less composed or as politely apathetic as it had been earlier. Frank hissed, his fangs growing down from his gums as slowly as I had looked at Seraphina. I reached the only free hand I had for my tie, pulling it looser so I could breathe as heavy and erratically as my heart would desire. While Serafina moved away from him, I felt Frank's reflexes suddenly react at once with a quick clench of his fingers, before he lunged for me. He leaned up to grab for me, so I countered with the hardest object in reach. His forehead collided with my head, and I felt him go limp immediately, as well as the ignition of a seering pain in my head.

"Jesus Christ, that was a bad idea," I said, merely a hiss as I struggled to get up, putting as much physical distance between Frank and I as I could, without compromising the rest of whatever physical capabilities I had. With a seriously heavy exhale, I blinked, trying to push back the sudden dizziness.

"What were you saying about getting as far away from here as possible? I think now is the time to go back to whatever superhero headquarters you have and write the plan that ends the villain, yeah?"

Breathless, I grabbed the upper part of her arm, struggling to keep the building upright while we were still in it. The moment our feet were beyond the exit and the door was shut, suddenly the only thing actually standing was the doorframe. The rubble was amassed in a big pile, leaving me feeling uncomfortably full of adrenaline that was a side-effect of the trembling. Yes, only the building quaking. The adrenaline had absolutely nothing to do with nearly being attacked by a vampire that was only going to have a death wish for me and the young witch beside me. Nothing at all.

"... I think it's safe to say we should take my car instead of a taxi, especially if I must return you home before either one of us turns into a pumpkin, or vampire dinner."
