East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Miya could feel the shaking of Oliver's shoulders and he held her, that laughter nearly bubbling from his lips as her cheeks burn brighter as she hides her face in her hands. How she managed to always get herself into such ridiculous situations was beyond her! She hadn't meant that he was attractive... though he was now that she had taken the time to look at him. She wished she had never left home today, the woman had wanted to stay in bed for the day, not leave her ramshackle apartment, and yet, here she was, hours later in a stranger's arms as he proceeds to take her home. His words rumble through his chest and she peeks through her fingers to look at him, her face still red from embarrassment and yet, she's hoping she's out of the clear as he responds. She doesn't say anything, her tongue too twisted to talk, though she glances back up at him, only to note the raised brow and... playfulness on his features. So different from the dark glower he had only moments before. His next words make her burn hotter, Miya gaping at him. She truly thought he wasn't going to say anything and yet, she was wrong... so, so wrong. Curling her small hand into a fist, she punches him in the chest, "That's not what I was trying to say!" She exclaims, entirely mortified as she hits him again half heartedly, "I mean... yes, you are attractive," she squeaks out, looking away from him, unable to meet his gaze as she admits it.

As he embarrassment slowly recedes, the pink hue to her cheeks remain as their conversation takes another turn, only for Miya to be snapping back at him. She must have made a point because the fight simply drains out of Oliver as he, in turn, apologizes to her. Miya was shocked, to the point of word loss as he concedes his defeat. She was shocked enough to not have anything to say, her chocolate gaze peering up at him warily. There is a moment of silence after her outburst of anger before she's giggling in almost hysteria, only to explain her luck with vampires. She misses the look Oliver gives her, as if she had gone crazy, and maybe she had! "I don't seek vampires out! They just... find me, I've never done a single thing to one of them! Well, actually... I did touch my old roommate's fangs... I don't think he liked that very much. In my defense, I thought they were fake," she mumbles, mostly to herself though she has no doubt that the man is listening to her. "Mhmm, I didn't know either. He took me back to his house and told me, I didn't believe him either but... he sort of scared me so I left," she shrugs, thinking back on that memory but quickly pushing it away as Edgar's voice draws her attention.

"Thank you, I'll try my best," she murmurs, embarrassed by the concern the elder man was giving her. Without thinking, she buries her head into Oliver's chest to avoid the man's gaze, "Who is the misses?" She can't help but question, suddenly realizing that Oliver very much could have a wife and he was holding her, though it was necessary, she couldn't imagine many women would be okay with that. "Um, I'm not going to get you in trouble am I? Your misses... I assume that's your wife?" She asks a bit warily, Miya pulling her head away from his chest to look back up at the man. It isn't long before he's sliding her into the car, Oliver reaching down and belting her up, Miya mumbling at him that she could do it herself. His response is surprising, causing her to be quiet for a few moments as he shuts the door. Save it for tomorrow, huh? She very much doubted she would be able to go to work as she self assesses herself. Still, she can't steer away from her curiosity as she asks him about his work, Oliver responding quickly and confidently. She looks at him again, her eyes lingering on his lips as he talks, something about his accent making him all that much more attractive.

Perhaps she had hit her head too hard. Finding this grouchy man attractive in such a situation! "Oh," she says simply, not really sure what else to say. Yet, it seems he wants to keep the conversation going by asking what she does in turn, "I'm a surgeon but I am also an oncologist. There's not much need for oncology here though because of all the supernatural creatures running around, I'm coming to find out. Cancer is almost nonexistent in this city because of that, it's the most bizarre thing I've ever seen! So, I do surgeries, primarily, and help other doctors across the country with any questions they might have. Although, finding a job in Sacrosanct is much harder than I'd imagine. The only open positions they had was a nurse, I'm way too overqualified and incredibly underpaid. The hospital even has me fill in for doctors that are out sick or on vacation, though I don't get their pay. It's... frustrating," she trails off, sighing, surprised she had gone into such depth about her work. Was she being taken advantage of? Absolutely. Yet, she couldn't do anything about it.

It wasn't long before the vehicle was slowing, her raggedy apartment complex coming into view as Edgar pulls into the parking lot. She doesn't get a chance to explain she could get into her apartment by herself... maybe, as Edgar gets out and lets Oliver out, only for Oliver to come around and open her door. Unbuckling her belt, she leans forward and winces slightly at the movement, her chocolate gaze looking up at the man. "Um, you can just drop me off, I'm sure I can manage from here," she mumbles, though, she's cut off as he reaches into the car and picks her up again. Her face is instantly red, "I think I can walk," she murmurs though it's half hearted, his warmth enveloping her again. Sighing, she realizes he wasn't going to leave until he saw her safely inside. Conceding, "I'm on the top floor of that building," she points to the janky metal stairs. Though it was only four flights, she felt terrible for the man having to carry her up them. He doesn't seem to mind and he doesn't even break a sweat as he makes that trek up towards her apartment. Her blush lingers, embarrassment of her apartment and partly because of the man holding her, "Thank you," she whispers quietly, though she doesn't say anything else.

Reaching into her purse, she pulls out her keys as they stop in front of her door, "Really, you can just leave me here, I can manage," she says a little more forcefully, not wanting Oliver to see anymore of how very poor she was. She couldn't help but feel he was judging her. Yet, the man simply takes the keys and manages to maneuver her around so he's holding her and unlocking the door. They are inside in a matter of seconds, her cheeks turning a deeper shade of red. Her apartment was clean and tidy, though it was lacking in quite a few things. There was an old couch, a wooden coffee table, the kitchen to the left and her bedroom just across the small apartment... though it was more of a studio than anything. What was the most noticeable was how cold it was, the woman refusing to turn on the heat, only to be outrageously charged with a power bill. "Um, really, you can go. My medical bag is just in my bedroom, I really can patch myself up," she says, unable to meet Oliver's gaze, hoping he would just leave her here and be on his way.
