East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

There were various ways Felicity could feed herself in this city. Food was not so much of a problem for her. Sleeping was slightly more difficult, but clothing herself was the real problem. Bathing was nearly as important and also difficult. Life would be immensely easier if she had money, but to get money one needed a job; and to get a job when one never smelled quite clean and owned no clothes that were not tattered was a task one shuddered unpleasantly at the thought of.

Still, there ought to be someone in this city desperate enough to hire a stray like Felicity, even though she probably had fleas. She often stood in gas stations and read their newspapers, skimming the ads (and sometimes even the obituaries to see if anyone left behind an open position) until whoever manned the store kicked her out because she hadn't bought anything and wasn't going to. The fact that she was homeless and it showed probably helped that decision along pretty nicely.

A few times she found ads for a single position and failed to get it, as expected. She came across an ad today, however, that gave her some hope. There were no single positions open but rather only one position taken. Felicity excitedly stole the newspaper and made a run for the gym where she might be able to shower.

Smelling significantly better despite her clothes remaining unwashed, Felicity exited the gym and began navigating her way on foot to the ad's address. It was not very far. Twenty minutes later, Felicity passed a sleek little car and turned toward the doorway of the building in the advertisement, swallowing down the little bit of nerves she was beginning to feel.

Inside, the building smelled like boxes and plastic and floor polish. There were crates everywhere. The business was newer than Felicity had assumed, but this was good. She stuffed her hands into her hoodie pockets and let the door swing shut behind her. She caught "bartender" from the conversation between the two people in front of her, and moved toward them. It looked like she wasn't the only one who had taken an interest in the newspaper advertisements today.

"Um, hey," she said, halting at the edge of the bar and fighting the urge to lean unprofessionally against it. "I hope I'm not interrupting. There was an ad in the paper, and I think I'm in the right place... Anyway, I can definitely help you unpack if you need it, and if you're willing to keep me around after that, that'd be awesome." She examined the woman in front of her. The man was significantly less interesting in that moment; Felicity had never seen a pregnant woman before, and had to remind herself not to stare despite the fact that the woman was clearly still very early in her pregnancy. "I can do whatever. I've never danced but I could learn, and I can bartend."
