East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Just another Night to Kill

I have had a lot of interaction with my kind over the centuries and I've come across a wide array of different traditions and personalities. I've met the formal and the savage, the well adapted and the..under-developed, for lack of a better word. There are some that livein the dark ages, that believe their race to be the true race of fairies and we refer to them as dark fairies. They are evil incarnate and believe in converting or killing. They perform sacrifices to their leaders that they see as gods and the different tribes have horrific wars over which leader reigns supreme. I usually try to avoid these. Then there are the modern fairies like me that adapt with the different civilizations and blend in easily wherever they go. The star-sect fairies, I have heard of in legends and bedtime stories but I've never had the honor of meeting one. I hear they're majestic creatures, as brilliant as a star when they glow and they burn just as brightly. Some have fiery tempers that can take out multiple creatures in one fell swoop and others are meek and shy, able to teleport away from an uncomfortable situation with just a twitch.

I've grown to like the adapting cultures of music that take over the human world. Rock and alternative is, by far, one of my favorites. I like the lively lyrics and the "face the world" attitude of most of the singers. It's the kind of music you can listen to while you take over the world. The human culture is so rich and easy to get lost in. I know the minute I slide into the seat across from the girl that magic flows freely through her. She's a strong powerful fairy and I'm instantly mesmerized. There's something about her that's different than any other fairy I've met before. She seems thrown off by my approach so I wait for her response before I reach for her phone, not wanting her to think I have anything but pure motives for coming over here. I'm always curious of my own kind. I can see the bewilderment followed by suspicion and interest in her eyes. She must know by now what I am but that doesn't make me trustworthy and I respect that. I listen as she speaks and nod, smiling softly. "That's okay. Technology isn't the easiest to keep up with." It's one of the fastest growing cultures in the human word that I've seen. One day people are barely able to comprehend spinning a disk with holes on it around to dial numbers and the next they're speaking like someone is there with nothing more than a little bug in their ear. Fascinating.

"I'm Troy." I say, reaching out my hand to shake if she wants. Some people feel like they can read something about a person just by the touch of their hand in a handshake. I'm willing to offer her what I can to show I'm not a bad person before I pick up her phone. I scoot the chair around a little closer to her, trying to be respectful of her personal space but wanting to get where she can see what I'm doing on the phone in case she wants to learn. "so you just click this here and swipe your finger across here and this is your text messages. This one is new so you just click on it and there's your message." I hand the phone to her so she can read it, careful not to read anything in the actual message so I'm not getting nosy.
