East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Ain't life just awful strange

a new world hangs outside the window
beautiful and strange
it must be I've fallen awake
I must be

Buffy clutched at the soft blue fabric of the hankerchief as Sebastian moved with ease through the city. She was too far gone to really appreciate the speed at which they were traveling, and luckily was too enamored with her own overwhelming feelings to be too prone to motion sickness. But before she knew it, they were standing along the damp asphalt of a quiet neighborhood street. Sebastian had gotten her this far. Her wails and tears had been reduced to half-slumbered murmurs by the time they arrived in Dupont Circle. She was gently shaken from the quiet, though quite damp, nest within his arms. Her eyes were bloodshot and glazed over, but Buffy was the most alert she had been all night. Perhaps the effects of whatever it was in her system were beginning to subside.

The dark hunter began to crawl out from within his grasp when she realized where she was, struggling with limp arms and flailing boots to rid herself of his hold. When she finally managed on her feet, she stood uneasily for a long moment, her mouth open as she took in several long, hot and humid deep breathes of the summer night's air. "Orange Street." She said softly, a crooked arm raising into the air and pointing in the direction in which they should go. "621 Orange. Unit B. Not da.... main house." It was a struggle, and her speech was still mostly slurred, but she was at least talking in almost sentences.

The lights out front of the main house weren't on at this hour, but Buffy could still make out the charming front porch and its big, light blue columns. It had been the perfect place to grow up. DuPont Circle, for all the shit Buffy gave this place as a teenager and even now in her twenties, was a nice neighborhood for regular people. Perhaps that's why she loathed it so much before. She wasn't ordinary. And now that house was filled with too many painful memories, ones that made her long for her mother and her sister and sometimes even the company of Jason, though she'd never admit that out loud. And for all those reasons, that's why she didn't live there anymore.

Buffy hired a few crappy contractors to do a shoddy remodel of the detached garage out back just months after her mother's funeral. The cold and damp studio apartment is where she dwelled now, with her sister's temperamental cat and a barely working kitchen. She rented out of the main house. "Around back." She told Sebastian, and for the first time, she could see him in plain view, without the hazy mirrored images of him lingering at both sides.
