East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Stupid dark faeries and their mischief. Why can't they leave well enough alone? I found traces of dark magic at the last site I investigated where two humans and a were-creature was killed. The human police wouldn't have known what to do with it because the were-creature was human again in it's dead state, completely naked because it had been shifted when it was fighting. Too bad you can't tell what sort of animal it could turn into but I could see the scratches and bruises running across his muscular form as he lied curled up in a corner where he probably succumbed to internal wounds. I think he was trying to protect the humans which makes me a little sad since our council has taken it upon themselves to pretty much target any supernatural being now, no matter if they know ethics or not. I probably would have had to face him if I came in the midst of the fight because he would have turned on me, thinking he had to save his own life.

The humans were innocent, a mother and child. Her arms were still wrapped around her son even as she was burned alive by the faerie's magic. It's revolting really that some will do this kind of stuff just to get the attention they believe they deserve. This one wants us to know he's here and he's not afraid to do whatever it takes to get our attention. Well congratulations, bastard, you got mine.

Now I'm in a subway car where I tracked him and I know he's around here somewhere. I've walked from car to car, glancing at everyone I walk by, looking for the tell tale signs. Pointed ears, sharp eyes, maybe even sharp teeth, depending on the faerie's alliance. But I sense him before I see him. You can feel the dark power emenating from him like a heat wave, so potent that it makes me have to stop to catch my breath. I glance down the car and see him sitting as calmly as you be, but I can see his eyes have already turned in my direction and he knows I'm here for him. His eyes keep darting to another girl sittig just a few seats over as well and I follow his gaze if only for a second, wondering what she is. I can sense her aura the moment I lay eyes on her. An ally perhaps, another hunter.

I don't know how old she is but it hardly matters. As long as she can fight, she'll be of help. My gaze locks on hers and I give a very subtle nod, a cue that I'm here to vanquish the creature so that she'll know she has help if that's why she's here as well. I just don't want to do it where there's all these people that could get in harm's way. I know the council is sometimes okay to overlook a few casualties when there's a threat to be taken care of but every life saved matters to me so I'd rather wait until we can get him in a more secluded area. Of course, that's saying he'll cooperate since he might know that's how my brain works. As if on cue, I see a devilish grin cross his black lips as he slowly gets to his feet, standing square as he keeps himself slightly turned toward both of us to keep us in sight, his hands already palm up, the energy running like currents through his arms to create the beginnings of weapons in his hands. I don't know if we should wait for them to form. I glance at her again, another nod given this time. It's time to act.
