East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I know that I still have a long way to go to prove to her that I'm not going anywhere, that whatever heart I may still have belongs to her entirely. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to show her just that. Some may think that it's not love to that chains me to Isolt, that it's just the need to possess someone so that no one else can have her, the insecurity to have someone to make me feel whole so that I don't just continue to rot in my own self loathing, but I would ask them this. If it were anything but love that I felt for her, would I have risked leaving for so long just for rumors of her endangerment? I didn't know how long I would be gone and I didn't send word to her for fear that she would follow and wind up in more danger than she may already be in.

I knew the risks. I knew that she might give up on me, that there was a chance she would stop looking and move on, find someone new. When I left Sacrosanct, the one I felt the most threat from, Tetris, was single and his eyes were only for her at every event we seemed to appear at. My heart grieved every night for the thought that I would return only to find out my worst nightmare has come true, that she would have flown into his arms and found a friend and companion and possibly much more.

I knew the risks and still I went. I didn't tell her for fear she would follow and I didn't want her life in danger. I would die ten times over rather than risk her beautiful soul. I would rather see her with someone else happy and whole rather than stay and let the rumors continue to fly. I had to check it out. I couldn't just let it lie. Some might call that selfless caring. I just call it necessary. Everything having to do with her is always priority.

My smile grows more boyish, my eyes glowing as she says that I'll always have her, joining in my toast as we both take a sip of the drink before I set mine down, content to watch her pluck fondly at the food spread out before her. As she holds it out to me, I smirk and open my mouth, gingerly taking it from her fingers as I watch her lick them. "Not just any lady. My goddess deserves the best of all things."

When she looks up at me, I can tell she has something to say. I lean in a little, giving her my full attention as she starts to speak. My brows rise, clearly surprised that she pursued the idea of a career in medicine as I once brought up. I thought she would just give it up as hopeless dreams. I could not be more proud, my lips curling back in a grin, eyes twinkling with happiness. "Any hospital would be lucky to have you, love. Does this mean I have to break out my best boxers for our 'study sessions?" I give her a playful wink. I'm guessing she'll want to spend a lot of her time studying and that means time she won't be spending with me so I'll be damned if I don't find a way to be a part of it no matter what I've got to do to support her and her dreams.

"We can play the game where I ask you what does cardiomyopathy mean and if you get it right, I remove an article of clothing. You'll be acing every test, I'd wager money on it." I smirk teasingly at her, though my eyes are filled with mischief.
