East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

She can feel the weight of his gaze on her, and while the remembrance of the heat that once brought to her features still tingled at the back of her thoughts she couldn't help but fear what his intense regard might reveal to him. The vampire was perceptive, that much she knew, but she wondered just how far it would get him now after so much time had passed. The feel of his name passing her blush lips was a familiar relief, as if his name was only meant to ever be said in such a fashion. She did not miss the upturn of his lips at her comment, drinking in the suave lilt of his accent that no doubt had women of any sort in a puddle at his feet. Not long ago she would have been the same, ready even with those simple innocent words to let the spark ignite between them once more. Yet now something was stopping her, giving her pause as the impulse to run head first into situations had ended rather disastrously the last time she had tried it. "Maybe someone is trying to tell us something." She murmured thoughtfully, treading the line she had set forth for herself with soft cynicism with her own disbelief in things such as fate. No, she was the only one to blame for the things which happened to her.

Yet as he questioned her motives for looking out at the nighttime crowds that wandered the city she couldn't resist the urge to remember just how much seeing him would never be a disappointment. She didn't miss the smirk that readily found his delicious lips, her hazel eyes watching the way it pulled them up at the corners with more interest she had intended. His reply sending a tingle down her spine that took root somewhere near her center. She would never understand the connection that somehow wound around them and electrified the very air between them every time they met. They had never shared more than soft touches, which while heated were nothing less than innocent, and words that while laden with innuendo had never been acted upon. Yet with a few words he could bring color to her pallid completion and breathe a life back into her spirit that had lingered stagnant for far too long.

Perhaps it is the promise of what could be, what pleasure and release could be found in one another without ever acting on such urges that kept their relationship so charged. The power of the possible. "As if you know any other way to be, Sebastian." She let out a breathy air of laughter that was almost resigned, the appeal of stepping back into the easy embrace of his charm all too apparent, and she might have were it not for the niggling of that sixth sense in the back of her mind that said they weren't entirely alone. As her gaze found them, those dark suited men who lurked like ravens just on the outskirts ever watchful but silent, it gave her a chill. Still as her eyes are drawn back to his finely chiseled face she cannot miss the faltering in his demeanor, but he brushes away her question with the same finesse as he handled everything.

The idea that he considered them a form of safety was both intriguing and concerning to the Were. Though their presence was not for her, the idea that perhaps as long as she was near Sebastian she would be subjected to some sort of extra layer of protection, and confusion as to what exactly he needed protecting from. Bewilderment tugged at the edge of her features, yet before she could voice it he was shifting, the sudden appearance of his hand before her actually causing her to flinch . Her reaction perhaps imperceptible, but the vampire never missed much. Memories of a different time and place surfaced violently until she managed to remind herself Sebastian was not even in the same realm of possibility which he had been.

His words drew her gaze back upwards, soft blue-green eyes gazing deep into those crystalline pools that always seemed to beckon her. That he was offering her a choice only increased the stark contrast to the man who haunted her, that alone tempering the first instinct that always seemed to linger just beneath the surface these days. Run. Yet where had that gotten her in the first place? Perhaps for once instead of running from it she could find some sort of shelter in running to him. The more she let his offer linger between them the stronger the familiar spark grew in her chest spreading outward until the warmth that had so often lingered between them began to return.

Coming to a decision of sorts resolve slowly colored her features as she pushed off from the cool glass against which she had been leaning. Never losing contact with the intensity of his gaze she stepped toward him, willing herself to bury everything that tried to warn her to take caution as she stepped back into the gravity that was relentless between them. Reaching out her hand she found her thin fingers winding around his own, his cool touch standing in sharp contrast to her own higher than normal body heat. It sent chills down her spine with renewed vigor, leaving her scar tingling but she pushed past it gripping his offered hand now. "I could use a drink." It was an acceptance of his offer, yet which one she wasn't entirely sure. Either way the ambiguous shadows of a club coupled with the freeing effects of alcohol would not doubt make a remedy of some sort for the battered woman. She inhaled, catching his scent which was still familiar despite how much time had passed mixed with the heady thickness of the cologne he wore. Carolina needed many things, a hot shower, a solid meal, a soft bed... and yet somehow she convinced herself that a night spent with a man who was little more than stranger who was eerily good at reading her would do more good than all the rest combined.
